Scar Cream / Activities Post-Op
Hello All,
Has everyone heard of Mederma? Is it easy to buy? Do you need a perscription? I just called my pharmasist and she said everyone keeps asking about it but she doesn't know if it's even available here yet (I live in Canada) so I just thought I would ask you all if its readily available there, so I can know. I still have to remember to ask my reg. doctor and surgeon when I see them.
I keep thinking of all the activities I want to do post-op....swimming, dance classes (salsa, merengue), self-defense, yoga, tennis, palates. Not that I'm going to do them all...But I have so many thoughts that I want to be really active after this. I am not certain if I want to join another gym though. I more think that I would simply like to keep active with fun stuff...softball, volleyball things like that.
Ha ha everyone is saying its pricey ha ha at least you all make American money ha ha lol. But seriously wow now I'm wondering about the price. But I usually am willing to pay once the product is worth it....ya know? Instead of paying for a mediocre product and having to buy more than one. Possibly the expensive one was worth the money in the first place. (Well let's hope). I think I may have seen it on line - But it was tiny little tubes...I'll look again to get an idea.
I haven't thought of using scar cream but I do have a list of things I would love to do once I lost weight. We have alot in common. I love to swim, I would love to take a yoga class, I love to play tennis. I haven't played since I was a child but I do love tennis. I love to go horseback riding and I would love to take lessons. My allergies doesn't like the horses but I won't let that stop me. I love hiking and nature walks. I will probably go to the gym for a while. My hubby said he would go with me if I joined one. I want to lift weights too. I want to go sky diving and para sailing. Oh there is so much of life I want to use and enjoy. It is so hard to pin point just one. LOL.

Good Morning
My mom uses mederma for surgical scars and it is expensive. She also uses the noesporin scar soloution patches. Thay re kinda pricey too. They both seem to work very well though. I'm more frugal Cocoa butter has always worked great for me so I think that's what I will be using. I did however buy some stretch mark cream for pregnant women that I'm going to use on my tummy to keep the skin elastic and hopefully deter a tummy tuck.
There are sooooo many thins I want to do. I want to learn to swim, I want to join a gym and do "funk aerobics" I would love to take yoga, I already do pilates, but I would love o be able to make it through the whole DVD and just lots of other stuff that I haven't been able to do in so long. Good luck to everybody
I heard of something different that works great on scars but have not yet tried it myself- Emu Oil. Yep, real emu oil from that ostrich like bird. Pharmacies sell it as well as independent distributors. You could probably find it on the net. My cousin swears by it. Has anybody else tried this?
Also some gals in my WLS support group who have alrady had the surgery say they are having great results using Vitamin E oil. They buy the Vitamin E gel vitamins, cut them open and smear it straight on the scar.
Oh yeah, I was on valleynutrition.com yesterday and saw some Emu oil and Emu lotion. It's expensive....
I have tried Vitamin E gel and I use it straight from the capsule too, that works good too.
Erin, I agree with you, I will make sure to get clearance from my surgeon before using anything. Would hate to get an infection
But I would also like to add that before putting anything on your scar area make sure you get clearance from your surgeon. I would hate for anyone to get a wound infection. I am not trying to be a sour puss or a negative nellie but I am just thinking of your health. I would hate for anyone to become sick.
