Ya' gotta' love it: So, one if the first nutrition things they teach you is that if SUGAR is one if the first three ingredients in a food, YOU DON'T EAT IT after surgery, right?? OK, got it. So, I am getting my stuff organized for my Sept 1 surgery...can you say just a bit anal???......and I hear that the Resource bariatric chewable multivitamins from Walgreens.com are just the thing, and taste pretty good too. Cool beans.......I order some up...they come presto, speedo, practically the next day. HURRAY...this is a good thing........... So, I read the information on the bottle...... have to take 4 a day. That sort of ups the cost......but that is nothing compared to the list of ingredients............. FIRST one is sugar. What's up with that???

Well, I doubt the total carbs you will be getting at one time will be more than 10 grams, so not to worry.

Wesie, What does your nutritionist say to take? What do you have so far in preparation? (You talk about anal?? Maybe we should start an anal club?? LOL LOL LOL) I am dragging my feet but I want to be prepared. I finally ordered 1 choc unjury and 2 unflavored unjury...I am so afraid of not getting my protein in....But what have you done/purchased to get ready....Just 37 more days for you Wesie. My nutritionist told me to take Tums (for calcium) but then I have read somewhere that Tums is NOT good. What does your nutritionist say to take? Erin

OK, in the anal department, here is what I have gotten so far: 1. 5 sample packs of Unjury (2choc, 1 vanilla, 1 unflavored), the Optisource chewable vitamins from Walgreens.com 2. from Proteinfactory.com, a bag of ion isolate whey protein that I had them add pineapple flavoring and splenda too (Note: I think it is too sweet...would half or leave out the splenda next time, but the pineapple is good.) 22g/protein per scoop 3. a couple of boxes of protein shakes from a former diet, lol.....but they are good, especially the raspberry one and the mocha. Got those from the old bariatric doc's office.... 4. from Twin Labs, a container of protein powder "Ironman whey protein" which is a vanilla royale milkshake w/16g of protein. I like this one wuth added flavor, like hazelnut or decaff coffee. 5. A selection of sugarfree Jello and sf jello instant puddings. 6. Trying different lowfat yogurts to see which I like, although if my taste changes, will just have to start over, lol. As for the calcium, they discussed several times which calcium was better........carbonate or citrate....and fir the life of me I can't remember!! That's something I will have to ask!! Senior brain moment here for sure... Later..... Wesie 4.

Hi! I just had my pre-surgery nutrition class on Sunday and she recommends either a list of over the counter nasty-tasting pills that you have to crush -OR- a few chewables and a sublingual B-12 from www.bariatricadvantage.com. It's something to check out.

Citrate is the best from what I have been told. I was told to take Flintstones Chewable Vitamins (nasty but I'll do what I gotta do) and take Tums. But my issues with the whole thing is that I heard Tums you shouldn't take. I am still so confused about this. I will take what the nutritionist tells me (I am not too fond of her but...what's a girl to do) but I am going to inform my surgeon as to what he suggests and explain to me why this is the best way to go. Post-Op aftercare is very very important and if I want WLS to be sucessful, I have to do the right things. But what is right? Every doc is different, every person is different.....know what I mean? I want to do what I am supposed to do. I don't want to just go off and do what I want, I need to follow their instructions. But I have severe doubts about what the nutritionist says. I don't know. I am very concerned about taking my vitamins and all the supplements. Erin

Yup, Citrate it is says my surgeon's handbook, which I had obviuosly not read well for content, lol. We will have to ask around somemore to find the best way of taking it I think. As for the chewable vitamins: I got brave and tried one of the Optisource ones that I bought...........and I don't think I will ever sit down and eat a bottle of them, but it was not too bad, LOL. It looks like a big TUMS tablet, and tastes about the same...sort of citrus/chalky. The flavor reminds me of Tang, the consistency reminds me of Tums. Not the greatest, but doable. It mushes down to nothing without much chewing, so you don't have to taste it too long. I'll keep asking on the earlier boards..the folks that are already doing it, and see if they have some more answers. Perhaps the May people will know..... Wesie
