BOOK REVIEW: "Before and After WLS"
Oh Donna,
I am almost done with the WLS: Everything you need to know....book...Well, it is good but to me all I seem to get out of it is more insecurites and some fears. If I was investigating WLS I wouldn't get it. It is a good book don't get me wrong but it seems like it does more with numbers and statistics. But Chapter 11 is testimonials and such. It is a good book but I would read it after I made my decision not before.
It kinda scares you. But that is only my opinion. Someone else may get more out of it than I did. I am totally secure with my knowledge of the surgery, this kinda adds to my anxiety which I am trying so hard to overcome them. LOL.
Again, this is just my opinion. Someone else may get more out of it than I did. I promised to let you know what I thought. How are you doing Donna?

Interesting view, Erin. I just got my books, and will start that one tomorrow.
I also got WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY: UNDERSTANDING AND OVERCOMING MORBID OBESITY. Smallish paperback by Michelle Boasten. Waste of time, waste of $$$...don't bother. MAYBE it would be worthwhile to someone who was very early in the researching phase, or someone who has been turned down by their insurance.....maybe.

Duly noted. I don't what I expected to get out of the WLS Everything you needed to know but it wasn't what I was expecting.
I think I messed up my post above. After I read it it was confusing to me. It was basically all about numbers, surveys and statistics. It did get confusing and like I said scary but if you are already secure in your knowledge about having surgery then I recommend that you don't read it. But if you are researching, this book is definately for them.
What I did like about the book is Chapter 11....the patient testimonials. They talk about the bad things that happened to a person, one man died and the wife had written about his experience (very heartwrenching and it didn't freak me out either). One person was pre-op, another had a minor complication so you get a little of everything. But as far as I got I read more of the complications that can happen. I am surprised but I did not freak out. (A MAJOR accomplishment for me.....LOL) The book had some things in it that will help me but really not much. Again, this is just my personal opinion. Someone else may feel differently.
Thanks Wesie for the money saving tip. I definately will not buy it. I am babbling again....can someone please slap me or put a gag in my mouth....LOL.

Boy do I agree on Susan's book!! A good read, and lots of real life situations. And then the recipes!! You can bet I will be freezing banana chunks today!!
I was so surprised to see how she could go out to fancy restaurants and still make it work. I know I would feel bad about the wasted food, but if you shared........ Anyway, I thought the book was very informative, the recipes look interesting, and I loved her enthusiasm. Thumbs up all the way!!
But salmon and fish and cottage cheese.....BLAH!!! Hope my taste buds do change!!!! As for shrimp, love them and live on the coast where they are plentiful, BUT have a husband who is so violently allergic to shellfish that I cannot even have them in the house!! That's a bummer......but maybe I can find a work-around....

I agree with Wesie. The only thing I have to say is my she and her hubby must be rich for they did alot of traveling, able to afford to go to a spa & really fancy restaurants. Her husband (and I think she does too) sells real estate so that would explain her ability to travel often. I just don't have that kind of money but the book is excellent. I got so much out of it, which is (duh) why she wrote the book.
I haven't been able to get to the recipes yet, I am at protein, carbs & sugar section of the book. It really is an excellent read.
