4 days post-op and jealous
I feel sick to my stomach most of the time. I feel alot of discomfort after I eat or drink (and I use eat loosely, slurp is more like it) Also I have diarrhea. Please tell me that everyone goes through this. Mike is having no problems drinking as much as his mouth can hold. He says he doesnt hurt at all in his belly. He had other complications not from the actual gastric bypass. His surgery was 5 hours and he had nerve damage in his arms from beginning in that position for so long so he lost feeling in his arms and hands. The left arm and hand is back almost 100% but the right arm/hand has to go through occupational therapy for the next couple of months until they decide if surgery is appropriate. His RNY was a little different as well. In fact we were joking the other day about maybe his liver was cut instead of his stomach, since he doesnt seem to have any problems eating or drinking. He will probably be coming home today. I came home last night. Upper GI was a horrible nightmare that I didnt think would ever end. I even thought about rolling myself off the board so they would let me go. 2 hours standing in that position made me extremely sick and bought me another day in the hospital. Actually I spiked a fever that really bought me another day. Mike's upper GI lasted about 15 mins. But I have to be honest when I was standing/laying on that table, I really questioned going through all this. I know in 6 months I will feel differently. Everyone goes through this differently, I see. I was in there with hubby, Mike and Bryan, they must be the supermen of RNY. My second night in there while I am laying in bed holding the vomit basin, I see Bryan and his wife literally lapping the halls, waving and smiling. This was his day of surgery. All in all, I am super excited to get pass this first phase and move on to the next one.
Hey Dare! Glad to hear that you & Mike have made it to the losing side. I am just sorry that you feel so bad. I am now 7 weeks out & like Bobbie said, it does get better.
For probably the first whole week after surgery, I was wishing that I had never done it. I am now down 34 lbs. & have lost about 43 total inches & I am feeling great. And I just love trying on clothes & watching them get baggy!
I hope that you get to feeling better real soon & I hope that you & Mike will be able to make it to the support group meeting next month.
Take care & God bless,
Julie

You are doing great!!. As the person said before you realize you are doing wrong and can correct it. Now that we are no longer big, we kind of forget about ever being big. I have been stuck on 172 for the past 3 months and am going crazy. My energy is low and I have fallen off the wagon so to speak. So, now we must jump back on the wagon and do everything we were taught to do.
I need to exercise more and boost my protein. I hate the protein shakes, but I can't or don't like most meats so I am struggling to get that protein in. Everything is so expensive too. What can we do besides continue to take one day at a time.
Keep up the good work and check back with me if you would like. I had my surgery on 09/16/04 in Evansville and have lost 111 lbs. I want to get rid of at least 42 more lbs. My stomach has been the hardest thing to get rid of the weight.
Take care and good luck.

Chip, you've done so well, I would not worry about it. I'm sure you will be back on track and ready to go. You are such an inspiration to most and we all have set backs. I was about to say, hey the month isn't over, but I forgot most count from their surgery date. I do that for total lost, but now I just go 1st thru end of the month to calculate what I lost in a month. Take care and God bless.
I'm struggling a little too, now that things are slowing down for us it is hard. But you did have a rough patch with the hernia thing and all.
I can't excersize right now due to dr. orders til I see the cardiologist, it is rough, because the weather is so nice and I know my metabolism would kick in with some vigorous walking. My joints are falling apart too from muscle loss. I need to get moving. I go in Wed. so maybe I can get out there and get moving too!
Good luck and don't give up!!

You have done very well for yourself. Like you said this is a nice wake up reminder to get back to basics and follow your guidelines. I know things had not been going very well for me.. and when i got back to basics things started going great again. You know what has to happen... but it still doesn't change how ticked and scared we can get that it will come back. I think we have all been there and understand.
Personally I think you have gained muscle and it weighs more than fat so try not to stress over it. I do the same thing and I just let it go and eat the way I am suppose to and excersice the way I am suppose to and in the end it will come off. But our bodies have to put on muscle then burn the fat so this next month you will more than likely drop it back off. You have done soooo awesome and with the surgery you might have water weight coming back on from a little dehydration too. You are amazing keep up the wonderful job you have done.

Chip~ you've done soooo well, both with your weight and with overcoming some hard times. I'm right there with ya, trying to get under 200 lbs. which I sooo thought I would have done by now. This has been a tough month weight wise for just about everyone! Glad to hear of your reenergization (don't know if that's really a word). You will make your goal~ it's only a matter of time!!! Awesome job on all that you have accomplished!
Hugs,
Kerri
