Hey Debbie, My name is Carol and I had my surgery on 9-22-03 also. I started out at 258 and down now to 178. Loss is so slow and frustrating. I havent joined a gym but I walk here at home on a treadmill and around the park 2 miles and I have my own weight equipment. Talk about pain! You will think you have died or been run over the first week but its a good feeling and if you dont get to go for a few days you will actually miss that pain! Things have been so out of sorts around here for two weeks and I havent gotten to walk or workout as much and I'm feeling it. I am hoping things will get somewhat back to normal soon so I can (my sis in law passed away on the 17th.). Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to you all and say what a great job ya'll are doing! Keep up the good work and stay in touch!
Love & Blessings,
Carol Kinard

Topic: RE: Working out
Hi Fran, I also am finding it rough to start doing something I haven't done in over 20 years, once I got a car walking was in and out of the grocery store or a resturant.
I went to the library today and checked out a few books for motivational walking, hopefully it will get me moving too.

Topic: 2/3 of way to Goal!!!
Hi everybody,
I was just introduced to this site, hope it can be fun. I love the whole website and everyones knowledge and openness, it has helped me tremendously.
I had Open RNY 9-30-03, I started at 314, as of today my 120 days ann. I am at 228 for a total loss of 86 lbs. and 37 in.
And it feels wonderful! I got to start taking a
again and are they ever great!
I can finally fit in the tub comfortably, just a little rough on the tailbone, will have to figure that one out.
I haven't been doing much exercising like I should, for now since I am out of work, I do enjoy walking my son to school and picking him up, decided it's time to stroll alittle after dropping him off, otherwise it's time to dust off the old treadmill ( it became a coat rack, higher dollar one at that).
Very interested in reading other Sept. post-ops notes and advice or whatever they like to share.
Well thanx for listening.

Topic: RE: slow loser
Hi, all, I didn't realize this board existed either. My surgery was 9/9/03 and I've lost 80 pounds since surgery, plus 18 pounds before that. Of course, I get impatient, too, but they keep telling me in my surgeon's office that I am way ahead of the curve. I just bought a scale a couple of weeks ago and I'm kind of sorry I did! I didn't have one before because I started out at 379 pounds. I only bought it because I only go to my surgeon's office once a month now. But before I had the scale, I was just weighing once a week, rather than getting on it every day.
I do know that keeping my protein up, drinking plenty of water and walking helps my weight loss. Did you also know that not getting enough sleep will slow down your loss??? I've read it a couple of places now (can't remember where. sorry) that you have to get adequate sleep in order to lose weight. I didn't get nearly enough sleep all last week and lost nothing so I'm making the effort to get plenty of sleep.
I haven't had any hair loss to date and I am so glad because I have very thin, baby fine hair to begin with! I'm pretty sure it's the protein. I had an infection in my wound so it had to be opened up and heal from the inside out so I had to really push my protein. I still try to get in at least 100 grams of protein a day.
The most important thing to me is trying to do what they tell me to do at my surgeon's office. I don't always do it and think I would lose even faster if I were more diligent. But hey, we're all losing weight every month and could never have lost it this fast without this surgery!

Way to go, Debbie!
I hope you enjoy your day at the gym -- go regularly, and you'll soon find yourself addicted. That's a believe-it-or-not story that I found to be true, once I joined a gym and committed to it. Now, I really look forward to my workouts, and I miss them when I can't get to the gym.

Hi There, for hair loss, you can buy a special shampoo at the Beauty Supply made by Nexxus. It has Biotin in it and works great!! Also, you can buy Biotin at any Pharmacy, it is very reasonable. then take it along with your other supplements. I take 600 mgs. per day. I could take more, but there is some Biotin in my Multi-Vitamin as it is. You are losing very good! I was Sept. 2nd, and am at 58 lbs. loss, so cheer up, you are ahead of me!! Also, and most important, do lots of PROTEIN!!! This will help in hair loss tremendously. I have lost very little thanks to my regimen. I use Pro-complex (55grams of protein) for my breakfast shake every day. God Bless.

Okay guy's I've had this same problem. Except I called my Dr. and told him I thought I was going crazy. I was so irritable and down right mean. Well he laughed and said no your not going crazy. He said I had lost my best friend and I said what! He said wheather I new it or not food was my best friend and it is gone for the most part. I said well I guess that would make some since. I'm doing better now. But sometimes I have a little angery managment problem. if you want to call it that. I call it me eat S**T and die day.LOL.
Hugs to all. I start physical training with my trainer to day haven't meet him yet. I sure hope he's cute. Oh well talk later
