Connie, I am 4 months post-op also and my hair is falling out. I went to the beauty shop and she told me to take these special vitamins for hair and nails. I believe that it is called Nioxin. Anyway, I have taken them for two days. No side effects as of yet but my hair is still coming out. I know it will take longer to take effect, but I am not patient. Anyway, When I went to Vitamin World, I was talking to the salesperson and he said that I was on the right track. So, We'll see... I'll let you know the progress.

Oh Jen, boy do I know the pains of that from those new found hips and such. I was hunting with my son Saturday evening and we were sitting in a tree stand. My butt bone was killing me! I well remember a time when my rear never went to sleep and my buttbone never seen daylight enough to hurt! Last night I was sitting on the sofa and realized how bony my knees and ankles were getting. It was a breakthru for me! I also bruise so easy now, like since some of the fat is gone I am more easily banged up! Have you found your balance is off? I have become so clumsy! Its almost like I am drunk! lol Hugs to you and congrats on your newfound aches and pains! Aint wls great! Carol Lap Rny 9-22-03 258/178/110

Connie, Same here, 4 months post and losing hair. Luckily its all over and not in certain spots. Not a whole lot we can do about it. They say to keep your protien up and some say shampoos like Rogaine and Nioxin works....most will just say time. It slacks off somewhere around 6-8 months out I believe. I have heard alot of people say that they cut theirs short to keep it from being so obvious. I have just went with the flow. If I am really selfconcious one day I will wear a ball cap. Most of the time though, I just play with my style and it helps. Small price to pay for the weight loss! I also have a head full.......rather I did lol. So having thick hair has helped alot! Mine is short/med. I am looking forward to getting a super short chic cut in the next month for summer...wanted a few more lbs gone though. Anyway, Good luck and dont worry, Ive heard it comes back healthier and thicker! Huggers! Carol 9-22-03 lap rny 258/178/110

Kim, I did call my surgeon as everyone suggested. He wants me to see a psychologist. He really feels like I have a eating disorder and that is what is causing my conflict with eating. When I told him that it didnt hurt me to eat and that things went down fine, they just simply wont stay down he got to asking questions and that is what he decided. I was told to eat whatever I wanted but to keep in mind the nutritional value. Protein first, veggies next. I was told to keep my meals balanced and to eat more often. He said I havent given my pouch time to stretch to accomodate food hence why I can only hold 2 ounces at once. Naturally the pouch will stretch and I keep mine from doing that by simply not eating. To make a long story short, I obssessed with food before wls, by eating all the time..now I obssess by not eating and guarding my pouch. I am convinced I will gain weight by eating or not lose any at all, so I dont eat. He thinks its a form of anorexia that is causing this. He said it wasnt uncommon for post ops to become anorexic if they refused to eat. Needless to say, hubby is watching me like a hawk and making sure I eat. Thank you for the sympathies. I appreciate it so much. Hard thing to go thru. Much love and thanks for the post! Huggers! Carol 258/178/110

Carol, You really should call your surgeon. I had surg on 9/15/03 and couldn't keep anything down either. Called the doc and talked to her - she referred me to a gastro doc and they did a scope and discovered I had a stricture. The opening was almost totally closed - that being the reason nothing would stay down. You really need to get this checked out. You have my sympathies regarding your sister in law. Send me an email anytime ([email protected]) Kim 312/235

Can anyone offer me some tips on how to handle hair loss. I am 4 months post-Op and my hair is falling out in handfuls. I read in the preliminary materials, as I was waiting for Insurance approval. But after the surgery, I lost the packet that offers suggestions on what to do. I need to know how to slow or stop the process.

I am SOOOO glad I came to this board, I was feeling like such a *loser* and not in the good sense because I would see people who had lost over a 100 in same time frame and now I come here and see I am right on schedule ..( as the Dr. said lol) .... I guess I was expecting to see the scale drop daily.. New clothes is SURE fun though...3 pounds and I will finally be under 200..been so many years..cant wait..have to love this journey.. Hugs to all my AMOS brothers and sisters

Topic: RE: Working out
I am finding it hard to balance work and my work out at home. So I guess we know what we got to do, make the connection with our tool and just do it. We did not come all this way for nothing. So lets make the connection once and for all. We can do this, we really can.

Ohmygod! I do so know what you're talking about! I was having horrid mood swings, and even threw a temper tantrum one night and threw several things against the wall in my bedroom. (cordless phone, remote control, makeup bag... etc.) I'm a single mom with two teens and my kids thought I'd gone off my rocker. But they've been a little nicer to me since then too. I've done a few different things to help. 1. I went back on Prozac. I've done this off and on throughout the years, mostly while I was married. 2. Exercise. I joined a gym and listen to books on tape while I'm on the elliptical trainer to make the time go faster. I haven't been in awhile because of family issues, and am feeling less balanced because of it. 3. Laugh. I mean really laugh. Find those people or those events that make you laugh, and go at it. Read a book, listen to a tape, watch a movie or call that friend that always makes you laugh. If you can, go to a comedy show. 4. Drink more water. It doesn't really help the mood swings, but it does help me physically. And it helps the weight loss which I suppose, does help my mood swings. 5. Sex. Great sex can do things for my mood that nothing else can. It helps if you have a partner though. The solo stuff isn't as much fun. I heard a comment at my support group that "Skinny moms are not as nice as fat moms." Well, my kids tend to agree with that, but they'll get over it. Good luck, and I hope you find your way. Let us know if you come up with something that works for you. PLEASE!!!! Lynn
