Topic: RE: 2/3 of way to Goal!!!
Patricia, Congratulations on your brilliant weight loss!!!
Isn 't it wonderful the difference that it makes in your life.
I know sometimes it is hard to get motivated to get out an exercise. I have forced myself to do it and now I really enjoy it and it is like second nature to me. The weather were I live is very cold and the days are short. So I used Leslie Sandsome - Walk Away the Pounds or the Chair Dancing Video's..both great forms of exercise.
Yes, I have also rediscovered the joys of the bathtub, and I don't flood the bathroom anymore!
I solved the tailbone problem by buying a bath pillow and sliding it down under my tail bone!
Cheers!

Topic: RE: Vitamins
Angela, Have you had any bloodwork done by your PCP since surgery? It's highly advisable to have full bloodworkups done regularly. (And to keep up with the results yourself)
Vitamin B-12 is **hugely important**. Some people are ok with taking it orally, some have to do injections. Whichever one works for you is good. But please know that you will need to take this for the rest of your life. I've heard that the self administered injections are cheaper than the oral vitamins. They're usually administered once a month, sometimes more, sometimes less.
The very nature of the RNY surgery makes it nearly impossible for your body to take B12 from food. There are other vitamins and nutrients that also won't be absorbed. This varies for each individual. It's very important that we pay attention to this, if we want to achieve and maintain optimal health.
Good luck,
Lynn
Topic: RE: pouch
Something I have learned is not to drink any carbonated beverages at all. Even diet soda. The carbonation can stretch your pouch.

i think the shake sounds very tasty. The only thing I can personally tell you is that my doctor told me bananas are a no-no. It's too easy access to sugar.

Tricia,
We both had our surgeries on the SAME DAY!! I had open RnY micro pouch. I am about 5'7" and weighed 287.9. I currently weigh about 201. Sounds like you are doing great. Congratulations to you!
Topic: RE: Hair Loss @ 4months Post-Op
I have been experiencing this for the past 4-6 weeks. I too am 4 months post op. I am so glad to hear that others are having the same problem...I was told also to up the protein, but I'm doing that and it's still coming out in handfuls. We'll have to hang in there. I'm excited to hear this will pass in the next month or 2.

Topic: RE: slow loser
Hello everyone, I am also new to this board. I had RNY 9/17/03 weighed in at 360 and as of January 20th I am down 74 pounds. Funny how I wanted to type Only down. My surgeon is thrilled with my lose. I am depressed. I work out atleast 4 times a week, take all my suppliments and eat mostly protein and have atleats one 30 gram protein shake daily. I also use the nexxus Biotin shampoo and I jsut started using nioxin which is a scalp invigorating type of hair product. My hair started falling out 2 months ago and it still is. It is not falling at much as at first and seems to be better since the nioxin ( purchased from my hairdresser). Its so hard to know you are doing everything right and then not to have grande results. I lost 7 % body fat from the gyms measurements this month and that should have been enough. I lost 11 pounds last month and that should have been enough. as I type this I sound like such a whinner but I know you people can understand where as my hubby & others cant. They think I should be thrilled with the 74 pounds and all I keep thinking is IF I EVER make it to the century club I know that wont make me happy too. Oh yeah BTW My skin is so saggy its gross. I carry almost all of my weight in my bottom so my sizes havnt changed much. Actually come to think of it in 2000 I lost 103 pounds in 11 months and only went from a size 28 to a 20 jeans....HHHM I was thrilled with that loss so I guess I should stop complaing huh?
Thanks so much for listening. I always feel better when I can vent to those who understand my craziness

The banana, pineapple and strawberries are loaded with sugar, eventho it's not processed sugar, it's still loaded with carbs.... The high carbs will definately slow down any weight loss. Can you add nonfat dry milk to a shake instead?? Or perhaps mix the shake with Crystal Light?
Have you talked with the surgeon as to why you are so unable to eat?? Cottage cheese works wonders and if you ma**** up with a fork before eating it, it will practically slide down. It's high in protein as well.

Hi Connie,
I am also 4 mos. post and my hair has been falling out in record speed for the past 2 months. I was told by my surgeon that it is an misunderstood phenomenon and will stop around 6 months postop. Seems to me that the amount of proteins eaten plus the anesthesia might have something to do with it. I truly think it's the lack of absorption of what we eat rather than the amounts of this or that as well as the rapid weight loss. I was on a liquid fasting diet several years ago and the same thing happened. It started to regrow around the 6-8 month during that diet. I saw little hairs on my head and couldn't believe it! It looked like baby hair. So while I'm not happy as my hair was thin on top to begin with, I know it's temporary.
