Topic: RE: 6-month progress updates
10 days and I will be at 6 months. It has gone slow, I did not suddenly drop 50+lbs the first couple of weeks. Each and every pound is a struggle. I do not eat much more than when I started on solids, I do not eat bread, potatoes, rice or pasta. I try to watch the carbs in other things. I have not exercised like I should, but find now with the loss I have had it doesn't hurt as much to exercise. I have started step aerobics and hope this helps in the loss and feeling better. The reason I had the WLS was to feel better physically and mentally, looking "normal" was just icing on the cake. I am accomplishing this one pound at a time. I haven't felt this good in 15 years. Sometimes I panic about the slowness, but I realize that the anxiety is caused by my desire to have things right now and measuring my journey against other peoples progress. I have to realize that this is a process and my body is adjusting with each pound that is gone. I pray that every pound I say goodbye to I will never see again. I have to celebrate that I am a little over halfway to my doctors goal of 150. I am hoping that by my 12 months anniversary I will have met that goal. God Bless! Mary Beth 283/215/150

Sheri, 121 pounds is really, really amazing. I have to say it again: I am absolutely floored by your commitment to the six workouts a week. I really couldn't get beyond my three per week at all; it's really, really impressive that you're putting the exercise at such a high priority! Congratulations! Jen.

Topic: Sept 29th six months out!
Sept. 29th I will be six months pre-op. I started at 229pds, I am down to 158 at the present. I am 5'3", so I would like to get to 125 pds. Six months and 71 pds is a good weight loss, I use to try so hard and loose maybe 20 pds in six months.I would do this surgery over in a heartbeat.... I was fortunate no problems with surgery. I really have no desire to eat I have to schedule myself to eat or I will forget. I am taking optisource vitamins that has everything in it for bariatric people. they are chewable and not bad.You have to get them through walgreens.I recently joined curves to try to built up some muscle my skin is sagging pretty good since I am not young anymore, I am 53. Currently wearing a size medium top and size 10 pant, from anywhere size of 18 to 22 before surgery. I wish I had done this many years ago. Oh yes the hair has thinned the fifth through sixth month has been worse but it should stop soon. God Bless..

Hey gang! Can you believe it's been 6 mths already?? It's incredible!! My anniversary was March 12th and I am happy to say that I am doing extremely well. I am down 121 lbs from 350. I work out 6x a week and now am watching my food choices since I can eat more... bleh! I used to keep a food journal but stopped because I figured I got this thing down..... big mistake... you really don't realize how much you've eaten unless you are really paying attention to it. I've had no complications, things have been going really well and I look forward to another 50 lbs. or more to shed off by my 1 yr. anniversary... yay!! Hope all is well with you! Best, Sheri

Wow, it is great to read everyones progress. Everyone has done so well. I tell you this surgery is such a blessing and has changed my life in ways I never thought possible. I went to my six month check up on March 2nd, and I lost 168 pounds. My surgeon was so happy, that was his one year goal for me. My surgeon is great, we talked about goals and it is just one pound at a time! It is so much easier to focus that way. I am exercising now religiously and love it. I love going to the gym and walking and I am skiing again. Life is great, doing the things I love.

Topic: RE: HOW ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR WEIGHT LOST?
Sharon, you are doing great with your weight loss. Remember as your weight goes down, your weight loss will slow down, because your body needs less. I would say 4.5 pounds is a good weight loss for one month. When your weight loss slows down, you may want to keep track of what you eat. I concentrate on protein and good carbohydrates, and lots of water. That seems to keep my weight loss pretty consistent. Also remember if you are excersing a lot for a while you do not always loose weight, but inches, and then it will start shifting again.

Topic: RE: Help..Im being attacked by sugar cravings
Diane, I am sure the sugar cravings are really hard to deal with. I guess I have been lucky, since surgery, all my sugar cravings left and I have absolutely no desire for sugar. The sugar free goodies seem to do the trick for me. I think once you give into the temptation and have that small bit of sugar it just makes it harder. That is why I stay away from it, and I fear dumping..which happened to me with watered down orange juice. Have you tried fruit which is healthier? Fruit may help the urge.

Dear Galpal, Well, guess what? You sound like you're doing great to me! I'm 9-4-03 RNY with no complications - just an insane body that has tried to drive my mind insane most of my life. I say that to say this, I'm a slow loser, no known reason - but we both will get there. I've lost 35 lbs in 6 months, but WLS saved my life. (I'm down from 9 RXs & 2 over-the-counter meds daily to 1/2 BP pill & vitamins daily.) The trauma of re-learning to eat was difficult for me, although I'm average intelligence. Keep me posted. I want to know you've made it! Sparkle

You look great and you obviously feel great to be exercising like that. You should have no problem reaching your goal weight. I'm 9-4-03 RNY but a very slow loser. I weigh 175 and want to get to BMI 25% or 125 lbs. However, I'm in a size 14 (barely) from size 24, and take 1/2 BP pill compared to 9 RXs & 2 over-the-counter daily meds before WLS. Exercise and Patience are hard, but reality is that I will make it too - long after you, I'm sure. But I'll be there with you someday! You go, fellow.
