Congrats again!!!

Hi Dayna,
No, the more people I talk to the more I find that are not in the century club yet. I guess we will all get there...some sooner, some later. I have been doing well, getting my protien in and my water but the scale is not budging.... UUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH. Really makes me want to go and bite the head off of a snicker bar.
Anyway, I hope and pray that perserverence pays off. Congratulations on your 90 lb weight loss.
Carolyn

Carolyn Sue, good luck. I think we've all come to realize that the plateaus are a way of life for us now, particularly the further along we get in our journey and the closer we get to our various goals.
I'm not a nutritionist, but I can tell you that mine advises that we post-ops stick to as normal a diet as possible. Do normal people nosh on energy bars and slurp back protein drinks to get their daily doses of protein? Heck, even my most Akins-devoted friends and family don't rely on protein supplements (though some do a shake or so a day at times).
I'm definitely not a fan of protein supplements. Few appeal to me, and frankly, if I'm going to spend 300 calories on protein, it's going to be the tastiest, most appealing protein out there. For me, that means egg white (w/ one yolk) omelettes with a little cheese, tuna burgers, excellent steak (I get the good stuff these days, since I can make it last a heck of a lot farther) and shrimp. I try to stick to lean protein sources, but I must confess, I absolutely love cheese.
Anyway, I guess I just want to throw that out there...by all means, up your protein however you want and feel good about it. But, unless your doc or nutritionist counsels you otherwise, be open to any lean protein source out there -- food or supplement.
Perservering through the plateaus can be a pain, but isn't it rewarding to see the scale move so quickly over a few days when the plateau finally breaks?
Good luck jumpstarting things!
Jen.

Topic: Finally I've joined the Century Club!
I just wanted to quickly post my most recent, major accomplishment. When I had my surgery Sept. 9, 2003, I weighed 257.2. Finally, after a good two or three weeks hovering at just around 99 pounds down since my surgery date, I made it over the 100-pound threshold this weekend. As of this morning, I weighed 155 pounds -- a weight loss of 102.2 pounds.
I'm only five pounds from my initial goal of 150, at which point I'll have a BMI of 25 and can truly call myself "normal," even if all my friends might bicker with that classification.
Now, of course, I'm angling to get as close as possible to my ideal weight, which is around 138 pounds. Who knows if I'll make it -- but as long as I stick to my workout/exercise regimen and I keep my eating healthy and in check, I think I have a shot.
I feel great -- so healthy, so fit and even so attractive (despite the less-than-pleasant mugshot above). Life feels absolutely wonderful.
Jen.

Jesse, I'm no expert, but it sure sounds like you're doing great!
Congrats on how far you've come -- and on your no-stress approach to the current plateau!

JulieAnn and everyone---Slow Losers of the World--Unite!!!!! Sept. 18, 2003, as of today I have lost 78 lbs. Of course I wish I had lost more by now, but.....I promised myself from the beginning that I WOULD NOT GET HUNG UP ON THE NUMBERS!!!! Health is what this is really all about. Yes, I compare myself to others, and sometimes feel those old "failure" feelings. But you should never get those kind of vibes from your surgeon or friends or family. Sure, we're all human, we enjoy carbs a bit too much, but maybe now is the time put a few folks in their place--they cannot make you feel like a failure unless you let them.

Wow! I have been reading some of the post and it seems that there are lots of you out there that are in the same place I am with the weight lost. I have only lost 90 pounds, I had surgery 9/09/03 so I am 7 months or so. I am so frustrated with the weight, because I have been exercising like I should and watching what I eat. I have been getting all my protien in and water. I am not sure what else to do. Well I just to say that I am sorta relieved that there are others out here. I hope nobady takes offence to that. I just thought I was ALONE! I was 316 when I had surgery. Thank you for sharing and listening too. Take care!
Topic: RE: Hi everyone - I'm fairly new too.
Tammy,
First off, congratulations on the wonderful progress you have made!!!
That is incredible. You have got to be sooooo proud. I agree about the carbs. I find myself craving them big time, but I always feel better when I go heavier toward the protien. I wish you much continued success with your journey and I hope to be able to talk to you more. I was 331 on the morning of my surgery and I am now at 245, so I have not hit the 100lb mark as of yet...I am struggling to get there...but I keep trying to plug away at it. You are an inspiration! Keep up the great work!
Carolyn

Topic: RE: EXCESS SKIN
Okay, those of you who just look a little like a "wrinkly blanket", stop the whining LOL! Just kidding.
After losing 188 lbs in six months - my stomache and legs, butt and arms are comical. I have wings that flap! Not to mention that because I had Lymphodema primarily in my inner thighs, they were swollen up like watermellons. They now have left a basketball sized deflated pocket on my right inner thigh! My stomache truly looks like a deflated ballon, and I think that it will take some doing this time for me to accept how I look.
On the positive, I have an extraordinarily supportive and loving husband, who has loved me and found me attractive literally through "thick and thin"! He sees me as so beautiful, and doesn't share the same concern about my looks as me.
The scarry part? I still have 100 lbs or more to go - If I am so blessed - and holy cow....I already have three inch flappers on my arms!!!
I tease my kids with them, and they delight in seeing me flap my wings. I guess it's simply going to be more fun in the future when I have five inch wings, huh?
Now the crazy part. After coming so close to dying because of my co-morbidities, I'm not sure I'm going to be willing to risk my life by going under the knife again - for purely cosmetic reasons! Tough choice for me!
Wish you all the best!
