MINERAL OIL!!! No taste, No oder, just oil and it's inexpensive and easy to take. start with 1TBS and increase or decrease as you need it. I am doing this by my Dr.'s advice and it has helped. The fiber stuff tends to make me too gassy and I feel a little uncomfortable (full) with it. The thing to remember is that when you use laxatives to frequently your body can become somewhat addicted and requires it all the time and then you defeat the whole purpose. The Mineral Oil is natural and does not have stimulants, (not to say I haven't or won't use a laxative from time to time.) and well, it's oil so what better for loosening things up!(yes, I know, such a yucky topic, but, important.)
I have been going through this from the get go, I've tried pretty much everything outside of TNT! and the standing up and drinking water sounds interesting but it takes me 5 hours to drink that much water!
Good Luck

Ooo. I have this same problem - so can realte! I would be a little worried about fibercon - so maybe check with your doc first. I haven't tried those because I'm worried about taking an "expanding" pill. Instead, when it's really bad, I use milk of magnesia or senna tea. Instead of fiber pills, I do also take dillute metamucil (more water than they suggest using ) - and that seems to help. I've also tried eating a high fiber cereal with milk, but that doesn't seem to help me. My problem is mostly around "that time of the month" - so that's when I have the most trouble and need to bring out the big guns. (oo, and when it's been bad, and I've felt that the problems was lower down, I've used glycerine suppositories.... gross, but helpful) The rest of the month, I just try and really keep up with water and also try and have some fruit during the day and chew that well (wet and good fiber) - but certain fruits make me painfully gassy, so it's been a matter of a lot of testing, LOL.
All that said (sorry I'm rambling), I did see someone's post on the Q&A the other day and it was the most fabulous advice. The lady said she had the same problem and what helped her was to first thing in the morning, stand up and try and drink 30 oz of water and stay standing for a bit. Her take on it, was something like the water got to her colon and helped, *ehem* get things moving. I saw this late last week and have tried it 4 times now and it is a MIRACLE. I've been incorporating it into my routine and it works well. It's A LOT of water, so it's not so easy to do. Also takes a bit of time. She thought first thing in the morning was key for this to work.
Hope things get better. Perhaps you may find some of these ideas helpful.
BTW, contrats on the great loss! Whoo hoo! Way to go!

Okay, it's official...........I'm constipated. Before WLS, I was EXTREMELY regular, like twice a day regular. Now, at 8 months post-op, I'm lucky if I go every 3-4 days and it's a REAL struggle.
So...........last night at WalMart I bought the WalMart brand of FiberCon pills. Are these okay to take? Anyone else take these? I took two last night before I went to bed, and WaaLaa, this morning, everything all worked out. hee hee hee
But I just wanted to make sure that it was okay that I take these. What does everyone else who experiences constipation use?

Topic: RE: why do I keep being stupid?
You know what? I do the same thing! It's out of habit more than anything else....and I find that I drop back into old habits alot, more than just in eating, and it's time to change those habits! Laying around on the weekends, because in the past I was too tired, and too worn out just from hauling all of me around to get out to do anything. It is easy to fall right back into that, although none of that is true anymore!
One thing I have learned that you can get used to anything! So what I am now going to get used to is making better food choices, doing other things besides eating when I get bored, feeling good instead of feeling bad....taking my happiness right now, and no more dreaming of how it will be after I do...whatever it is!
Topic: RE: happen to anyone else???
Just the opposite for me! I used to dump from everything, and now I don't dump at all! However, if I take a bite of anything extremely sweet, I do get just a little lightheaded, and that is the end of that! I had one bite of cake on my birthday, and one bite of cake at my daughters graduation party, that's enough for me!
For me, all I can say is, Thank God for dumping!!!!
Topic: RE: What is going on?
My weight did a big slow down when I hit 6 months, but then I quit smoking too, and gained some weight! Yikes! But after a month, it has started coming off again. It can be scary, my first thought was , oh no! I've stopped losing! I still have 100 pounds to lose I can't stop now!!!! But it's okay, it will start back up again. There must be something about the 6-7 month mark....
I recently started doing slim in 6, the exercise program, and I alternate that with Leslie Sansone walk away the pounds, and I have taken up belly dancing, lessons once a week, and I practice a litte every day. I try to listen to my body. Last week, my allergies really got to me, and I felt overly tired, so I took a few days off from exercising. Guess what? That is when my loss started up again!
I went to the nutritionist when my weight loss first stopped and I chart on fitday.com. She told me that I should shoot for 1000-1200 calories, and i usually eat less than that. She also told me to try for 70-90 grams of protein, and I usually make it there, grabbing a shake if I come up short.
Hang in there Cathy! The plauteau won't last I promise!!!!!

Cathy,
First off, congratulations!!! Thats over a 100 lbs that you have lost! You be proud of what you have done so far because that is a GREAT accomplishment!
If you have doubts about your post op nutritional program, go back to your doctor/nutritionist and request help!
I think that everyone's body has it's own pace and all we can really do is try our best to do the things that will help the pounds come off. My friend and surgery buddy has gotten to goal, (same body size surgery within days of each other) I am still working to get there. Not long after surgery we went to a local mexican fast food place to eat...she ordered about 6 different items, and damn near ate all of them! I nibbled on a couple of chips and queso. I have watched her stuff down a Lil Debbie Zebra cake and drink a whole regular coke without a second thought while I sat and ate a couple of slices of cheese. I don't think she has even exercised! I have been very adamant about getting in my protien, doing my water and taking my vitamins, and I don't think she even thinks about any of that or what she is eating really. We started at the same weight...yet her body just dropped the weight very fast while mine has clung desperately on to each pound. When I have lost the will power I have eaten a very small amount of some forbidden food (for instance half a reese's peanut butter egg at easter). I have pretty religiously stayed away from bread, pasta, rice and only just the other day allowed myself the first tablespoon of mashed potatoes since surgery. I have tried to focus on watching carbs, but allowing myself some natural carbs, like fruit. I have not exercised everyday. At my surgeons visit last week he said now is time to up my exercise routine. I have been on several looooong plateaus where I have lost only an average of 6 lbs a month. But in the past week and a half I have lost over 10 lbs. I have done nothing different than I was doing before. It was just time for my body to let go of those pounds.
I think some of our bodies are just very efficient at thier survival skills...holding on to what they have stored against a famine. Well the famine has come in the form of this surgery and the body is just trying follow its natural programming...you just gotta be strong and outlast it. Just the simple logistics of it will tell you that you will be successful...think of how much food it took to just maintain your preop weight and then of how much you are getting in now. Work you program and you WILL eventually get there. Don't let someone else's fast loss make you feel bad or guilty. Hang in there! You can do it!
