HELLO JO ANN, LISTEN GAL, IT'S TIME TO QUIT! I QUIT 5 YRS. AGO COLD TURKEY AFTER OVER 30 YRS. OF SMOKING, AND WASTING MY LIFE ON THOSE LOUSY THINGS!! YOU CAN DO IT, YOU REALLY CAN, YOU HAVE IT JUST INSIDE OF YOU! YOU WILL BE GETTING A NEW LEASE ON LIFE WITH THE SURGERY, SO START YOUR JOURNEY BY QUITTING SMOKING TO GET THROUGH THE SURGERY WITH EASE. THE POUNDS YOU HAVE TO LOSE, WELL GET ON A GOOD PROTEIN SUCH AS PRO-COMPLEX, AND DRINK - DRINK- DRINK! ALSO, LOTS OF WATER, AND GET SOME GOOD WALKING IN EACH DAY! YOU CAN DO IT JO ANN, THIS IS WORTH IT! MANY OF US WERE WHERE YOU ARE AT SOME POINT, YOU ARE STRONG, SO DIG DEEP WITHIN AND PULL THAT STRENGTH OUT FOR EVERYONE TO SEE! GOD BLESS YOU

I AM SCHEDULED FOR 9/11. I STILL HAVE NOT QUIT SMOKING AND I NEED TO LOSE SOME WEIGHT BEFORE SURGERY. I AM DESPERATELY AFRAID DR. HAMAD WILL CANCEL MY SURGERY.

Sara, I gave up smoking April 2002 after seeing my brother-in-law return to the CICU still hooked up to the resperiator and all the other tubes after having TRIPLE HEART BYPASS. We were close although he is 10 years older than I. He had lived with my wife and I for several years, and we had drove trucks togeather for the last 12 years. But seeing him laying there like that I knew that it was time for me to quit. I asked the Lord Almighty to help me, I had said for years that I wanted to quit, and I had tried to quit, but I had never gotten to the point of asking Him to help me and saying that it was time to quit. Two days later, after they got tasting worse with everyone that I lit up, I smoked the last one that I had in my possion. Instead of going and buying more cigs, I stopped and bought $25.00 worth of BUBBLE GUM. I have not wanted another one and I cant stand to smell someone smoking or even an old ashtray. I got my date of Sept.08,2003 on June 25, 2003. It will be done at Baptist Medical Center - Princeton in Birmingham, AL by Dr. John L. Mathews and assisted by Dr. Robert Jay Smith. I am so happy, I thank the good Lord Almighty for helping me this far and I know that he will see me through!

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts, but I have great news. I talked to the surgeons office yesterday and my new date is August 12th! I will still be thinking about all of you in September. Good luck!
