Hi there Jan, my name is Jennifer and I live in PA in but most of my life I lived in York Beach Maine in the summer and my mom still lives there in the summers. I'm getting ready to fly up there Sept 12th to help her close up her place for the summer. I'm just in the beginning stages of this, met with the nutritionalist, the shrink and next week the surgeon, have almost all my paperwork in so I'm rolling. I would be glad to be your angel and your friend as you go through this. Many people aren't very supportive of this surgery, but they would be if they had to walk a mile in our shoes. I'm 46 years old, have an 11 year old daugther and a 18 year old son. I wish you much luck in your custody battle for your children, how old are they? If you can stick with your date do it, this is for you and you need to be healthly. My BMI is 50, I weigh about 300, I have sleep apnea, high BP and high colestrol, so I know I have to do this or I won't be here to see my children and grandchildren. Keep in touch, and I will pray for you in the meantime! Jen

Good luck Sherry and lots of prayer and love to ya!! I am 10 month post-op, and am so glad I did it. Just take it slow, but do everything they tell you. You will do fine. Not sure that I am an angel, but definitely a friend!! Take care... Alice

I go under the knife on the 8th of Sept. With all the falderal, it has taken a year. Anybody else out there...keep with it. There are a lot of hurdles placed in the way. I think this is a way to test your mettle. Hang in there, call doctors on your own, don't accept little clerks "pat" answers, and keep pursuing your goal. My HMO rarely ever accepts WLS. But I am now in the final days. It takes perseverence in some cases. Wi**** didn't, but face facts. This is expensive surgery. HMO are based on minimal care.

Topic: Would you do it again?
Hello, I am scheduled for surgery 9/19/03. I am very excited but am wondering if any of you out there would do it again? I am a little nervous about the malabsorption issues. Other questions include: How long were you off from work? How did your co-workers react to your rapid weight loss? How long did you take pain meds? How long after surgery before you could exercise? What is the best thing about your surgery (other than the weight loss of course)? What is the worst thing about your surgery? Do you attend a support group? I look forward to your responses. Thanks. L. Stewart

Topic: RE: SOMEBODY WRITE ME PLEASE...18 days and counting
Hi Belinda, just checking through this web site and read your profile. Best of luck with you upcoming surgery. I had a laproscopic gastric bypass Dec .2002. I have lost 150 lbs since. I had no complications with surgery was out of the hospital in 2 days. After a 3-4 months after surgery this new way of eating and behavior will seem so normal. Before i had this surgery no one really said this is just a tool. Well maybe i heard the word tool a few times. It really didnt mean a whole lot. However the reality of this surgery is your best weight loss will occur in the first six months. What most people DON'T KNOW is the rest of your weight loss which will be a substantial amount for most of us is mainly up to you. What i mean is your body begins to adjust to the low calories intake. Your loss slows. Which mean you need to get up and start walking or doing other exercise to help that weight loss continue on. Your stomach will start to accept foods that at first you couldnt tolorate. You need make a conscious effort not to include a lot of negative food into your diet again. I, at 8 month post surgery still eat 1000 calories a day and go to the gym 4 days a week. That is how i lost 150lbs in 8 months. The weight didnt keep rolling off after 6 months. Most people use phrases like i can't wait to get to the other side" or "it's like a rebirth for me" meaning surgery will change everything for them. For everyone reading this YOU are the one who will ultimately be doing the work if you want to reach your goal. It sounds like i am being negative but i want to make sure you know if you want to realized your dream of thiness the stomach can't do all the work. You need to work with it. I am very pleased with my results. My dr said they are not typical. i did this i am gaining my life back. I have 60lbs left to go. If i can give you any advice please email.
