Your right this is exciting but it is also terribly frustrating when your scales simply go on strike and wont move. Mine stay stuck constantly unless they are going up 2 lbs! I lose 3 gain 2, lose 2 gain 1. Its a vicious cycle. My inches are coming off slowly as well but steadily coming off. I am down 64 lbs since 9/22/03. But I havent lost an ounce in 3 wks. I have been the queen of plateaus. Any suggestions on how to kick that habit please let me know! hugs to you all and keep up the good work, us slow losers have to stick together guys!

Hi! I had my surgery sept 23. I have lost 55lbs. I seem to lose ten lbs fast and then nothing for two weeks. I talked to my doctor ( Dr Freeman) and he said my body is adjusting to my weight loss. But when I look back and think how long it has taken to lose 55 lbs on diets I have been on before. Four months is not a long time. Right now I am losing my hair. I have started using vit-a-tress by nexus. I talked to one of the nurses who has had the surgery and she said there is really nothing you can do about it. Just wait it out and eat plenty of protein. It will grow back. I also talked to one of my friends who has had the surgery and after a year of weight loss of 135 lbs, her hair is growing back thicker. I know I would like to wake up one day and all the extra weight be gone, but I really don't want to lose it too fast because of all the excess skin. So if my body has to adjust then I can wait and let it. I have started working with some dumbells to tone some areas like my arms and back. And doing stomach exercises for my belly. To be honest I like how things are looking in the mirror. My favorite thing is giving away clothes that are too big. Be patient and enjoy the process of losing your weight because this is a permanent solution.

I had my surgery 9/24 I am down 90lbs. But started out at 427. You have a lot less to lose. You are right on track. I was paranoid for while that it wasnt going to work but it is. The nurse at my doctors office always tell me when was the last time you lost 60 lbs. Think about it!!! Your doing great !!!

I am so glad you pointed out what you started out at. I think, and I am very guilty of this, getting frustrated about losing slowly. We dont take the time to stop and consider what we started out as. I started at 258. Naturally I am going to lose slower than someone who started out over 400. Fact of the matter is, no matter how bad we hate it, our bodies are going to lose in their own time frame and their own way. I have come to the conclusion that no matter what we do, eat, drink, excercise......its going to come off when its the time for it to come off. yes we can help it along and aid it, but we can not MAKE IT come off any faster. I think the key to being successful is to enjoy each ounce that comes off and treat them as if they were 10 lbs. We will lose the weight and we will be successful......but as in all good things......it comes to those who wait! Patience guys.....we made it this far, what is one more step to being happy, healthy and gorgeous! I am the worlds worst pouter when it comes to my scales not moving, but ya know, the truth is, I would not have lost what I have on my own, by myself without all of ya'll or without this amazing tool that we have been given. Treat it with kid gloves, take care of it and treat it with respect, its the only thing that has worked for many of us so far and when we get frustrated and give up, its going to give up. Each ounce is a victory, each ounce is a milestone and each ounce is a miracle.WE are all doing great, we are LOSERS and you cant ask for more than that! Much love, hugs, peace and skinny thoughts! Hi There, for hair loss, you can buy a special shampoo at the Beauty Supply made by Nexxus. It has Biotin in it and works great!! Also, you can buy Biotin at any Pharmacy, it is very reasonable. then take it along with your other supplements. I take 600 mgs. per day. I could take more, but there is some Biotin in my Multi-Vitamin as it is. You are losing very good! I was Sept. 2nd, and am at 58 lbs. loss, so cheer up, you are ahead of me!! Also, and most important, do lots of PROTEIN!!! This will help in hair loss tremendously. I have lost very little thanks to my regimen. I use Pro-complex (55grams of protein) for my breakfast shake every day. God Bless.

Hi, all, I didn't realize this board existed either. My surgery was 9/9/03 and I've lost 80 pounds since surgery, plus 18 pounds before that. Of course, I get impatient, too, but they keep telling me in my surgeon's office that I am way ahead of the curve. I just bought a scale a couple of weeks ago and I'm kind of sorry I did! I didn't have one before because I started out at 379 pounds. I only bought it because I only go to my surgeon's office once a month now. But before I had the scale, I was just weighing once a week, rather than getting on it every day. I do know that keeping my protein up, drinking plenty of water and walking helps my weight loss. Did you also know that not getting enough sleep will slow down your loss??? I've read it a couple of places now (can't remember where. sorry) that you have to get adequate sleep in order to lose weight. I didn't get nearly enough sleep all last week and lost nothing so I'm making the effort to get plenty of sleep. I haven't had any hair loss to date and I am so glad because I have very thin, baby fine hair to begin with! I'm pretty sure it's the protein. I had an infection in my wound so it had to be opened up and heal from the inside out so I had to really push my protein. I still try to get in at least 100 grams of protein a day. The most important thing to me is trying to do what they tell me to do at my surgeon's office. I don't always do it and think I would lose even faster if I were more diligent. But hey, we're all losing weight every month and could never have lost it this fast without this surgery! Ruth

I am SOOOO glad I came to this board, I was feeling like such a *loser* and not in the good sense because I would see people who had lost over a 100 in same time frame and now I come here and see I am right on schedule ..( as the Dr. said lol) .... I guess I was expecting to see the scale drop daily.. New clothes is SURE fun though...3 pounds and I will finally be under 200..been so many years..cant wait..have to love this journey.. Hugs to all my AMOS brothers and sisters

Hello everyone, I am also new to this board. I had RNY 9/17/03 weighed in at 360 and as of January 20th I am down 74 pounds. Funny how I wanted to type Only down. My surgeon is thrilled with my lose. I am depressed. I work out atleast 4 times a week, take all my suppliments and eat mostly protein and have atleats one 30 gram protein shake daily. I also use the nexxus Biotin shampoo and I jsut started using nioxin which is a scalp invigorating type of hair product. My hair started falling out 2 months ago and it still is. It is not falling at much as at first and seems to be better since the nioxin ( purchased from my hairdresser). Its so hard to know you are doing everything right and then not to have grande results. I lost 7 % body fat from the gyms measurements this month and that should have been enough. I lost 11 pounds last month and that should have been enough. as I type this I sound like such a whinner but I know you people can understand where as my hubby & others cant. They think I should be thrilled with the 74 pounds and all I keep thinking is IF I EVER make it to the century club I know that wont make me happy too. Oh yeah BTW My skin is so saggy its gross. I carry almost all of my weight in my bottom so my sizes havnt changed much. Actually come to think of it in 2000 I lost 103 pounds in 11 months and only went from a size 28 to a 20 jeans....HHHM I was thrilled with that loss so I guess I should stop complaing huh? Thanks so much for listening. I always feel better when I can vent to those who understand my craziness

I know it is hard to look at what others have done and wonder why you are not losing at the same rate. I had Open RNY on 9/2 and have very good success, as of Jan 27 I had lost 150 lbs, but I do not compare myself to others at all. We are all different and our bodies are all unique. 60 pounds is a brilliant weight loss . The one thing that helps me is I keep a diary of what I eat and I only weigh myself once a month on the same day. It is to easy to become obsessed by the scales. Just keep eating right, drinking water, and exercise and it will come off. Cheers, Gen
