Hello, Janice.  My RNY on 08.03.09 went beautifully, I'm happy to say.  I came home yesterday afternoon and this is my first full day at home.  I haven't experienced any problems, but I am having difficulty getting my 60 g of protein, since I'm only supposed to drink 4 or so ounces of my protein shake at a time. So far the biggest challenge has been keeping my two puppies from jumping up on the bed onto my stomach!

I'm suppose to say on "full liquids" for a month, and then move on to soft/pureed foods.  I have an appointment in a week with my surgeon to have my drain tube removed, and another appointment in three weeks to check in with my nutritionist.

Best wishes for your recovery.

Clara

OK, I am on day 2.  Lost 4 pounds yesterday but I still think this is hard.  I have had 2 shakes and brothy soup today.  I am already getting tired of the shakes!  Yikes !!
Thanks for the note!  Let's do this together!

I would try working on the liquid pre-op diet now if you could, those 7 lbs will melt away.

I'm also August 11th :) I'm feeling you as I have a almost 6 year old at home and I just remind myself how much healthier and more active I will be for him because of this surgery and that I will be around a lot longer too :)

Good Luck! :)

Topic: RE: Started your liquid diet today?
I started my semi liquid about a week ago, it's hard for a food junkie but after binging for  a week I got down to business and I've lost about 9 lbs.  It's hard but I keep myself busy. My surgery is 8/26 and I have another week of this semi liquid..(2 shakes and a small meal). After the 12th I will be on a full liquid diet..for 2 weeks. I'm hungry still but the thoughts of being healthy, thin and SEXY, really keep me going...I keep myself busy and I talk on the phone a lot!!! I wish u much luck.  Let me know how u feel and how u are doing!!!

I'm also on the semi liquid diet.  I have a shake for breakfast and one for dinner. I eat 3 to 5 oz of chicken breast grilled with cooking spray and a package of mushrooms.  The mushrooms really shrink down. I cut up 2 carrots and 1 cucumber and one apple...it's very filling and very low in calories.

I use the Trader Joe's brand Protein powder it has one carb I add:

1/2 cup of plain fat free yogurt
1.5 cup of berries mixed  or pineapple tidbits frozen (Trader Joe's has the best prices)
2 cups of ice
1 cup of ff milk or lactaid
2 packs of sugar substitute
2 scoops protein powder

or

2 cups ice
1/2 cup ff plain yogurt (optional)
1 large or 2 small bananas
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder (not nesquick the sugar free kind)
1 cup of ff milk or lactaid
1/2 cup of water
2 packs of sugar substitute or more if needed
2 scoops protein powder

blended... These come to about 32 oz and have less than 400 cal each, and the lunch is less than 700 calories which brings u to about 1500 calories a day....I've been losing like crazy by following this diet.

These are awesome and very filling...I keep myself busy by talking on the phone surfing the net, sleeping, and I also walk 45 minutes a day it's about 6 laps...you do what you can and at the pace that's right for you. I also have a sauna suit, I bought at wal-mart for $8 they have up to 2x and I'm pretty big the top fits good but the bottoms are tight but i make it work. I put that on and dance for half hour with fast paced music. The sauna suit will make you sweat like crazy.  It's hard to get myself to do these things but once u see the pounds start to come off u will be so pumped....I have a husband who loves to eat but is thin and it's been hard but I want to be healthy and SEXY!!! So that's what keeps me going...and believe me I have a major addiction to food.  I also watch anything I can on weight loss...biggest loser. Big Medicine stuff like that....Good luck and let me know if this helps!!!

Hi! I hope your surgery went great and that you will be felling good soon. My surgery was cancelled because I got acute diverticulitis 3 days before surgery. Bummer. Let me know how it all went so I'll know what to expect when I finally have suregry! Take care--Pat
