August 24, 2009 -- Lab Band - any hints for pre-op diet?

I'm scheduled for my Lap Band 8/24/09. I'm excited and nervous. I need to get going on the high protein / low carb diet and finding this hard to do. I know if I don't and the Dr. gets in there and sees a big ole fatty liver, then its close up without the band. Anyone else doing the pre-op diet? How are you faring? Any helpful hints? Thanks!!

Just had my lapband on 04AUG, and had the same situation. I just kept telling myself how much I wanted this, and knew that if I didn't play by the rules, I would regret it. I managed to lose about 25 pounds in the pre-op phase, which is a nice start.

My best recommendation? Lots of water. I usually squeezed fresh lemon in mine.

Good luck!

Hey Kristin, just two weeks to go, you are half way there!  Protein takes your hunger away more than anything else.  Get in am much as you can.  If you get some non flavored protein powder, you can mix it into sugar free jello or broth or skim milk.  You will need to do this after your surgery also.  Try to stay away from protein shakes that are more than 10 grams of sugar and less than 14 grams of protein.  The importance of the protein is so when you really start loosing weight, you will loose fat and not muscle.  That is important.  Congratulations on your choice to have a happier healthier life, and I know you will!

Plain raw veggies were "free" for me. They saved my life.

If I was ever hungry I would practice taking my really small bites on a carrot.

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I know I'm not the only one going thru this, and I have to remember all the support that is here.

Thanks again!

good luck to you kristin!  i could only have clears for 2 weeks prior, plus protein shakes and strangely enough, 12 oz of tomato juice.  i am on full liquids now and going into week 4. so more than halfway there.
look on atkins website and south beach. those are both low carb diets. atkins more so.  that was one of my  many diets and i lived on eggs, meat and cheese.  string cheese is good. low in fat.
you will do great! good luck
