Hi.  I had the VSG on 8/10.  I will be honest, I didn't expect as much pain as I am experiecing.  Surgery was over by about Noon-1PM on Monday since my surgeon did both the sleeve and fixed a sliding hiatal hernia.  I couldn't get more than an hour or two of sleep in while at the hospital becuase someone kept coming in giving me more meds, breathing treatments, ice chips, etc.  The surgery itself went well and they released me the following day at 3PM.  I had to show that I could drink the can of Glucerna they brought me in the morning aong with as much of the bottle water as I could.  It took me forever but I finally got enough in fo make then happy.

Once I got home, I realized thre was no way I would be able to lay down on my bed.  Everything was too tight and too sore.  So I have been sitting and sleeping my recliner for the past few days. Like someone else posted I'm lucky if I get 2 hours of sleep at a time.  This is the first time I felt like sitting up in my office to use the computer.

Getting my fluids in is tough.  I take small sips and it just sits on top of my stomach for what seems like hours but it finally makes it through.  I'm not sure if I can get at least 32oz of anything liquid down right now but I keep trying.  I am also battling head and nasal congestion and not sure I can take to help with that right now.  I crushed up a ClaritanD and mixed it with water, but of course I cant get the whole solution down plus it tastes awful! LOL  Thank God I don't have problem swalling the Liquid Lortab (Vicodin) for pain..  I have to give myself shots twice a day with Lovenox (Heparin) to help prevent blood clots.  I am also using an anti-nausea patch behind my ear and taking a dissolving Prevacid daily for acid reflux

Definitely keep a pillow near buy to push against your stomach when you are coughing.  You won't feel quite as sore afterwards.

I know...a lot gripes,  Sorry about that.  This is my first major internal surgery and I wasn't prepared for how long it would take things to start loosing up and stop hurting. I hope everyone else who had surgery on the 10th and 11th getting by okay.  If they hurt as much as I do then this is just par for the course~ :-)

Anyway, it's all downhill from here!  My new life has started a little bumpy but I expect great things to happen eventually! :-)

Hang in there everyone!

Hello All,

Surgery was Monday and all went well, by the GRACE of God.  I was home on Tuesday the 11th. The gas pain was excruciating; but it is nothing that can't be overcame...

My blessings are with all of us that are making changes for a better life!

All the Best,

Hello all!  I had my Laproscopic RNY on Aug 5th and I am 10 days out.  My surgery went very smoothly, and I thank God for that!  I stayed over night in the hospital and came home around 3pm the next day.  My first few days were very difficult for me.  I was extremely uncomfortable, unable to do anything but sit in my recliner chair, and shuffle around a little bit.  As time has gone by, though, I feel better each day.  (And yes, the gas does go away!)  I have gotten out of the house a few times, I go for walks in the evenings, and of course, get all of my protein, liquids and vitamins in.  I am so grateful for this site and all of the supportive people and helpful information on it!

Hello August Beeeechez!~

I had Lap RNY on the 11th.  Let me tell you, the first day is a ******! Hurts bad.  But the pain meds you get are great.  And I swear this is true...EVERY TIME YOU WALK, YOU FEEL BETTER.  About every 2 hours I would hit that magic pain med button and then get up and go to the bathroom.  Every time I went to the bathroom, I lapped the corridor.  After about 5 or  6 laps the pain in my chest (gas) was almost gone.  After my walk I would go back to bed and hit the pain button again and go back to sleep.

What can I say?  I am allergic to pain.  It makes me break out in whining!  LOL

The only time I felt nauseous was when I tried the liquid painkillers.  My Doc said I could have pills instead.

I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because my oxygen levels kept dipping.  I am home now, on portable oxygen.  They seem to think I will only need it a few more days.  We'll see.  :)

One thing of import to note...I am not hungry at all.  For the first time in my life....I AM NOT HUNGRY.  It's a pretty amazing feeling having to make myself drink my shakes and such.  If my relationship with food stays this way I should have no problem meeting my goal weight.

I protein shake salute you!~

Well, I just saw this post, so I'm a little late, but I had my (Lap-Band) surgery on Aug 5th. I had a very quick recovery and the medical team were great! I have to admit, that without my husband, I wouldn't have had as good of a reovery as I did. He made sure I drank every 15 minutes and used my incentive spirometer a few times an hour and helped me walk a lot in the hospital.
I was in the hospital for a total of 12 hours. That's mostly due to the fact that anesthesia takes FOREVER to wear off on me. Afer I went home I stayed very active to work out the gas and help with the healing process. But I also rested a lot in between.

I hope that everyone has as successful surgery as I did.

Good luck everyone!!!

Angela
