different pre-diet
My date - Wed., August 6, at 6:30 in San Antonio. Dr. does not require liquid diet before or after! Just protein, veggie and water before-no sauces. After surgery liquids until you feel hungry enough to eat. Take vitamins . No protien drinks, starts a bad habit, and more calories. Different from what I have learned here on OH.

Hey Jan that's great news all the way around. He's going for real food, and from my recent experience I can say it goes down much better than all the wierd liquids that are too sweet. It is different, but maybe its time for different. The "traditional" method doesn't always work for everyone. I do question how you will get in all the necessary proteins. This morning I am enjoying peppermint tea, a great soother for the tummy. I've found all the herb teas to be very pleasant forms of liquid.
You know I'll be keeping you in my prayers for a "boring" surgery and a great recovery. Blessings to you my friend!!!

It sounds like my plan as well. I am to add unflavored protein powder to food and soups. Soups are my initial food on the liquid diet. Eventually I can stop doing that as I can eat more and get all the protein needed without additional help from protein powders.
They also arent really big on counting my calories as much as focused on nutrition and protein intake. I am to count protein and my new way of eating will mean eating 6 times per day.
I am in Sweden so I think there is some difference between european ways of doing this than US ways. They dont even sell all those protein powders around here. If I wanted to do them I would have to order them from the states because here there isnt a huge selection and you only have your basic body building ones and the one I will need that they sell at the pharmacy for people with medical issues and need added protein. Its unflavored. There is a part of me that wants to order them for emergency in case I cant get the soup down in the initial phase but I dont do fake sugars so....I cant do them anyway.
So far no one has mentioned a pre-op diet but I do have to attend a group meeting with the nurse on the 19th for my surgery on the 31st so possibly they will give me one to follow.
