Topic: 3 days Post-OP
I had surgery on Wednesday the 13th and I am feeling great. I have already lost 7.5 pounds since my weigh-in before surgery. I cleaned house today so not sore but definately feel a little tired after activity. I'm guessing this is normal. Also I do not have any physical hunger pains however the mental ones are very tough. How did everyone that has has surgery get through the first 2 weeks post-op??

Topic: RE: ALL is good now!! Got a new date for RNY~ August 25th!!
Good for you. I am having a revision. I have one or more fistulas and multiple hernias from a 1986 RNY. Two postponements and one game plan change, I have seen a new surgeon ( I arrived armed with my medical reports). He has a game plan based on my history. I have to have a contrast cat scan, a release from my Pri Care Phy and expect to be operated shortly. A revision (fistula) does not require pre authorization. It is a medical necesslty. All the best, Robyn

Topic: RE: surgery date moved :o(
Don't worry you will be back on the schedule soon. 22 yrs ago when I had my RNY, I came into the hospital 2 days before my surgery for a final pre op clearance, my insurance company informed the hospital they would not cover it. I called the gentleman who administered the plan for the New Jersey Highway Authority (very large public service union group) and suggested that he contact his legal department. I asked him to find out what would be cheaper, to pay for the surgery or have my heirs take legal action if something happened to my due to my medical conditions. I told him I would wait for an hour for an answer. I left the hospital, but by the time I got home (before cell phones) I had a message waiting for me to "hurry back to the Medical Center, my surgery was covered". At the time RNY was not listed as an exclusion to our plan. As a matter of fact, RNY became a covered proceedure the followig year. Be patient. So far my surgery dated has be postponed twice, not due to coverage, due to the surgeon. I am waiting for a new date. Robyn

Topic: Off the schedule for now, but I will be back for next month.
I wish all of you safe and uneventful surgery. I will be back early next month for my repair of my fistulas, repair and removal of hernias and scar tissue, and a slight modification of my pouch from my 1986 RYN .

I am so happy to be home. Surgery went well and I am on my way to recovery. Anyone else out there recently home. How are you feeling? Any good recipe's for the blended month- let me know. Anyone dreaming of food and buffetts like me! Oh my god I almost panicked one night I actually thought I ate the pizza, it was just a dream. This is not easy. I can't wait to feel a little better and not be so scared as to how much I can put in my mouth, etc. Keep me posted! Lisa1965 [email protected]

Topic: RE: Pump me up-I am freaking
Hello Muilka: Mine went rather quickly since I knew my insurance was going to approve the surgery. I had a lot of preparation before surgery. I needed to get by blood sugars down to a healthy number and I had to quit smoking (25 years 1pack/day smoker). The smoking was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I was scheduled for this surgery 4 years ago with a cousin and aunt and couldnt go through with it because I couldn't quit smoking. It took all these years of yo yo dieting, and finally desperation to get me to the point that I had to give it up. Once I did that everything went quick for me. If you dont smoke or have diabetes than I would concentrate on trying to slowly exercise and lose weight before the surgery. Go to the support groups meetings they really help. Find support of friends and family you will need their help. Moral support but most importantly you will need help with cleaning, shopping and taking care of your children if you have any. Plan for lots of help you will need it when you get home. Unfortunately, I didn't plan properly in this department. Let me know how things progress with you. Nice talking to you Lisa [email protected]
