Topic: RE: 3 days Post-OP
I'm so glad to hear you are feeling this well. I am having my surgery next Tuesday and have been scared to death that the postop would be extremely painful. I know that alot of people don't have much pain, but my daughter had the surgery in January and had a very painful recovery. Thanks for the encouragement!
Topic: Today is my surgery day....
Everything has been wonderful so far. Our hotel, the NH Krystal is gorgeous...we stayed there last night...arrived the day before my surgery. Nathalie is wonderful, had blood drawn, ekg, etc, sitting in a comfy hospital bed with an IV and will be going into surgery this evening probably around 6pm. I have wanted this for so long...and thanks to my bff and all of her resoursefulness, I'm on my way to the loser's side.

Hi Jenn,
I'm having RNY on Aug. 26 too (in San Antonio). I started the liquid diet today - very tough already! I watched my daughter have the surgery in January and she stayed with us for several weeks afterward. For the first 2-3 weeks she did not want anything to do with food at all. It was tough to get her to eat sugar free popsicles. The toughest part was finding vitamins she could tolerate. Most of the chewable multivitamins we tried made her throw up and the pills got stuck. We found some liquids and that seemed to work better.
Are you nervous at all? I am. I know it is the best way for me to get rid of the diabetes, hypertension, etc. But, I feel pretty scared. What about you?

I read recently somewhere on this site that a female had RNY then she gained almost all of her weight back and then went and had the LAP BAND done.

I am in the process of preparing for Wt. loss surgery. I'm currently following up with my PCP for a few months as proof that I'm trying to loose wt. I have BCN premier care insurance. I'm not sure what exactly should be discussed at my PCP visits, and has anyone had surgery right after trying for 6 months to lose wt? Do you get approved quickly? I'm still learning and reading while I go through the process. I was also wondering if anyone lives in the ypsi/ann arbor area that is willing to give info and become a wt loss buddy with me before and after the surgery.

Hi, thanks for responding. Unfortunately when I had my RNY done I couldn't eat anything at the point where I was to have started with soft foods and I wasn't able to hold much down. So the gastro doctor had to take a look and dilate it a bit , it had to be done 3 times. Of course I listened to what the doctors were saying. And instead of waiting a longer period of time in between dilations, which should have been done . It was done fairly quick. So of course when you heal, your scar relaxes a bit more so you end up having more room. And the outcome was that my stoma became enlarged to where I started putting weight back on . It has taken me 1 year and 4 surgeon to find out what happen and why I was not feeling the full feeling we all get. So in reality I almost back to where I started out before surgery , with no tool to help the fight. I put 25 pounds back on .I had the surgery in Nov of 2005 by a first class doctor who once I had the surgery never followed up on the dilations with the gastro doctor and doesn't do revison work so I had to find my own way. The new surgeon was recommend to me by my family doctor who is a first class M.D. , his associated son had surgery with the new doctor. So I am in good hands. So both the gastro and bypass doctor are doing the surgery to make sure everything goes in the right place. This turns out to be more common then I knew. I just wanted to find out how fast the weight comes off. I guess it must be like a lap band surgery. I had lost 95 lbs. originally . Sorry for going on its the shortest way I could explain it. I go for surgery Sept. 2. Again thanks
