I'm so sorry that I didn't see your message until now! I did use Tricare for my surgery. I did not have to provide a 5 year medical history. My PCM referred me at the end of December to a Bariatric Surgeon and it was approved immediately (for the doctors visits only). I was set up for a seminar in March along with my first appt with the surgeon. The doctor asked me to lose 5% of my body weight, get an EKG, Psych Eval, attend a minimum of 3 support groups and once that was done they would submit the authorization for the surgery itself. They did this around the middle of May 2008. I kept checking tricare online and my authorization kept saying "pending." On June 1st when I saw the surgeon again they told me I was approved and scheduled for July 28th. That was great news except my co-worker was on vacation on August 1st so I had to postpone it until the next available date.
My BMI was (and is) over 50 and my co-morbidity wasn't listed on the tricare website (High Cholesterol) but they approved me.
I hope that helped and if you have any further questions please let me know. I'll try to get back to you sooner!
Melissa
Thank you. I apologize for the late response. Your reply helped. I hope it does not take six months. I hope to have the surgery before Christmas. i do not need the referral and I do have the medical history. I have an appoint with the doctor Wednesday, Sept. 3. I plan to attend my first support group the first Tuesday in September. I weighed my self Tuesday, and my BMI is 50. We were told at the seminar about the Psych Eval and other test we may have to get done. I was told that the doctor may let me get some them done at VA. I will let you know how the doctor's visit goes.
Congradulations and keep up the good work. My Dr. submited the paper work and in 24 hours (thanks god) I was approved... I have a surgery date of Oct 02. Not scared yet. But anxious...
Keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Muilka
I wish all the luck in the world. I was just approved myself. Today I scheduled my tentative date for surgery. (Oct. 02, 2008) It hasn't hit me yet but, I know anxiety will kick in soon...
Keep me updated. What are some things you have done to prepare?
Sincerely,
Muilka
Hello Lisa,
I hope all is well. I received news from my insurance company that I have been approved. They only took 24 hours for approval. That was great. Now I am anxious and a little afraid. I started excersing and eating healthy meal. I have lost 10 lbs. so far. I most likely will be having surgery sometime in October. Are there any things that I should start purchasing or doing in order to prepare myself? I really appreciate your help and support. It is my pleasure talking to you.
Sincerely,
Muilka
I am 1 wk post op and I feel hungry! I didn't think I was supposed to feel hungry after RNY. I keep reading about how everyone else isn't/wasn't hungry and has/had to force themselves to eat. I started soft/moist foods on Monday and eating about 1 ounce but I feel like I could eat more but I am forcing myself to stop. I haven't had that full or satisfied feeling yet.
Is something wrong or is this just head hunger??? I don't want to do anything wrong!!!
I am so upset!!!!
Hope you are doing well!
