Topic: RE: not feeling well...3 weeks out
I am four weeks out and just this week started feeling a little bit more like living! I have been listless, tired, no energy and couldn't even imagine walking for thirty minutes. However, I do feel like i turned a corner this last week but still cannot get the protein in (I get sick if I try to eat what I am supposed to!) So I live on popsickles and protein shakes. I think everything you are feeling is normal.

Topic: RE: Should I tell people at work about my operation?
Hi,
I wish you luck with your colleagues. It is so hard to draw the line from personal to professional. I think it use to be different... but now we live in a very "informed" era. I think that you have to do what you feel is right in your heart. I work for a university and I have told the colleagues that I am in direct contact with. They are very supportive and open to WLS. I am not going to announce it to my students or other faculty members. However, if they ask how I lost weight, I will have no problem telling them how wonderful the tool is.
Good luck,
Michele

Hi Wendy
Sounds like you are doing great. I started excercising 2 weeks ago. That really frustrates me because my weight loss has sloweed so much. I've lost only 26 poundws. I started doing jazzercise.
I have told some people at work. Didn't want to go thru the stress of what you are going thru. However now I feel like I'm not losing fast enough and wish I didn't tell people. I'v been trying to order of the kids menu at restaurants. Most have been very accomodating.
Good luck, keep me posted.

I found it most important for me to get my protein drinks in. I found a crystal light (5 cal) to mix with the vanilla powder because it tasted nasty and I feel much better. I made a big mistake one time and had the protein drink at night and I suffered for hours. I just had my surgery on 8/20 and am still suffering from pain around the port area. Has anyone else had this problem? I still am at that stage where I'm not supposed to lift things but living alone makes that pretty hard. I also wanted to know what it's like after the first adjustment? Any suggestions on how to handle it?
Topic: RE: Should I tell people at work about my operation?
I agree that it is your own personal decision. I personally told most everyone at work. I felt like I needed to keep my supervisor in the loop of what was going on anyways. And with him, he'd tell his few friends and it would eventually get around anyways. So why not go ahead and let everyone hear from my own mouth instead of hear-say?
I do have a co-worker that she had never told anyone, but when I told her that I was working on getting everything done to get approval. So she opened up to me, but asked me to not tell anyone else. And I haven't. But we talk about it often. She's been a great inspiration.
If you don't feel comfortable telling people about what you did, then dont. It is your body, there is no law anywhere that says you have to reveal anything you do to it.

Hi. I had a VSG on the 11th of August in London. My BMI was 34 at the time of the op. I am keen to find out how much weight you have lost since your op? I had to pay for the operation for myself because my BMI was not high enough and I would have been put on a very long waiting list if I wanted the government to pay. I weighed 94kg's at the time of the op and have now lost 10kg's in the first 6 weeks.
Topic: RE: 1 wk post op and hungry? or head hungry?
Dont be upset! 6 weeks after my surgery now. I definitely have had hunger pangs at times. At one point, think it was around week 3-4 it lasted a week (same time as my period) and I ended up snacking on small mouthfuls all day. Really weird but that passed. In weeks 5 and 6, I havent been bothered with food at all, would rather have gone without but forcing myself to eat for energy. I think my taste buds have changed, some things I used to love before, taste different now. Have had a few sips of wine and it tastes like vinegar so probably a good thing as I have lost interest in any alcohol (not that I had much before surgery but used to enjoy a couple of glasses or wine, once or twice a week).
Topic: RE: Now I know what they meant...
The one thing I have felt has been missing from my VSG process is counseling to sort your head out in terms of the emotional aspects of eating. I am loving the weight loss, but there have been times when I have come home from work, tired and stressed out and eaten something wrong or too quickly and then suffered the discomfort.
I still need to figure out how to deal with built up stress differently. Dare I say......I have on occasions missed that warm, fuzzy feeling I used to get when I flopped on the sofa after a hard week on a friday night with a bottle of wine and large Thai or Chinese take away! This week however, I have lost quite a lot in one week so no negative thoughts about the past!
Re the protein, I had my surgery in the UK. They have at no point made too big a deal of the protein. I was told to eat my protein first but have not been taking protein shakes or anything. Can you tell me more about the advice they give you over there on this? The only other thing I know is that protein helps prevent saggy skin from weight loss.
