How much time do I need to take off from work? I'm planning on having the lap RNY.
What has been your experience?

Hi Nancy
Im taking 3 weeks off. I do a lot of liftng at work so when I go back it will be with a 20 pound max lifting for 2 to 3 weeks.
I think it all depends on your type of work and how your feel.
I woold be carefull not to go back to soon.

oh I felt so bad the first week and a half....so I would say at least two weeks.

I took off 2 weeks but was ready to go back after a week.  Give yourself plenty of time just in case and ask your doctor.  he may not release you for a certain time.

I would definitely go 3 weeks.  You don't want to push yourself, you need plenty of time to recoop.  If you feel like it and your doctor releases you sooner, then go back early if you'd like.  Just don't ru****!

And 20-30 lbs restriction?  WOW.  I'm on a 10 lbs restriction for 3 more weeks!  Would say must be nice, but that keeps me from having to lift too much.  HAHA  That means I can make my boss bring me things.    lol

My vote is 3 weeks!

It depends on the kind of work you do.   I work in a correctional setting and wanted to go back after the first week but my doc refused to clear me until at least my 2 week visit.   I have been back and feel great.   Personally for me, going back to work got me moving alot more than when I was at home.   Good Luck with your surgery!
