I will feel hungry then I take a sip of water and I'm not hungry. Is this normal to feel hungry at al ? I was not hungry at all the first 6 days after the surgery, but now I think because I really donot eat I'm feeling hungry here and there. How much is normal to eat like the sugar free puddings, should I be able to eat a whole one ? I have not but just want to know if I should be able to... Any advice on this would be great. I'm having problems getting all the protein and fluids in everyday.

Feeling hungry about a week after surgery is normal according to my dr. After my surgery I was not hungry the first week but as the second week rolled around I started to feel more hungry. I think this is because the swelling around your band has gone down and the band has not been filled yet so the liquids your on is going through the band easier and quicker. I was able to eat a whole sugar free pudding and actually started solid foods earlier than I was suppose to(but I would be very careful) Once I got my first fill on my 3rd week the dr said that It was normal that I was feeling hungry and thats expected and usually you should have your first fill 2-3weeks after surgery because they know you begin to feel more hungry the longer you are post-op. Hope this info helps.

Thanks for your response I'm sure it will help. But I did not get the band I had the Gastric bypass. I was not hungry last week either, but going into the second week I will get hungry maybe once a day if that. I also don't eat the protein I need and I don't eat anything before feeling hungry. I think I just assumed I would not get hungry anymore after the surgery.

Hi, I had my surgery 3 years ago. Yes, you will have feelings of hunger now and then. Be aware that some of these feelings (at least in my case) were emotional and not true hunger. It took me a while to tell the difference. Try Unjury Protein powder. It is available online and over the phone too. It dissolves well and tastes good too. As far as hunger, I really went through hungry times and times where I felt like if I ate anything I would throw up. I really went through some nasty tasting stuff as far as protein drinks!! My doctor actually had samples of Unjury too. Try eggs, cheese, cream of wheat, pudding, dry milk powder (added to pudding and soups for extra protein) and pureed chicken, tuna, cottage cheese with sugar free jello powder for flavor. Some people like ricotta cheese and make it a desert with splenda and vanilla. I never really cared for that though. Just do your best on the protein, you will begin to be able to get more in as the days go by. Just be very sure that you are getting enough fluids in--even if you have to take a sip or two and then rest for a while. Good luck to you, and God bless you.
