Topic: RE: IS EVERYONE GETTING THEIR PROTEIN IN EVERY DAY?!!
Im not. I haven't had a shake in days. I've tried several and they all gag me. I am and have been having a horrible time with this. I've tried smoothies, ect. nothing works. I probably haven't had 100 grams altogether in weeks.

Don't worry Allison.... it WILL come off even if it's slower than some. I think we need to stay away from the scales. Aren't your clothes beginning to feel looser on you? Don't you FEEL like you're losing even if the scales don't say that you've lost that much. And really.... if we hadn't had the surgery we SURELY would not have lost as much as we have. I think we need to try to stop thinking about the scales and try hard on getting enough protein and fluid in every day. We really should be shooting for 80-100 grams of protein. If we do that it WILL help our weight loss pick up! I am a firm believer in protein!!

Hey there! Glad you could join all of us August 2007 post opers! How are you doing on your journey! Sounds like the weight loss is going REAL well!

I'm so glad that you posted. I'm just over 3 weeks out (had my RNY on 8/27) and I'm only down 16 lbs. I have cried everyday for the last three days after getting on my scale. I called my bariatric center in a panic yesterday and they assured me everything is fine. I DON'T BELLIEVE THEM! I am getting in all my fluids and protein and walking for an hour almost everyday. I feel like this surgery was a total waste. I am really getting very depressed. How do you keep such a positive attitude.

Topic: IS EVERYONE GETTING THEIR PROTEIN IN EVERY DAY?!!
Don't forget everyone. We NEED more protein than the average person if you've had RNY because we have the malabsorption issues. We need to be getting at least 80 grams and we need to try for 100! Protein is what is going to help us keep our energy levels, help us not to lose hair and keep us from getting that gray, unhealthy look that so many post ops get when they don't get enough protein. We are unable to get enough via food so we must supplement via shakes etc. AND did you know that protein triggers a weight loss hormone! Anytime we don't take in enough protein, our
muscle tissue and lean body mass start to break down. Proteins form the body's main structural elements. Without protein, we will feel weak, lethargic, lightheaded,
and nauseous. Our body uses proteins to grow and to build and
repair bones, hair, skin, blood, and internal organs. Muscles are built from protein. Unlike fat cells for fat and muscle or liver for glucose, there is no place in the
body to store protein. We need to consume enough protein EVERY DAY to allow our muscles to be healthy and perform work. And don't forget that most important muscle in our body... our HEART! As a weight loss surgerypatient, we need protein to heal the new connection in our stomach, to heal our incision, and to suit our body's energy requirements.
How is everyone managing to get their protein in?
Topic: RE: How much is everyone eating?
Hey Maya.... you are doing very well. 900-1000 calories a day is great! I wish I could be getting that much in. You will lose weight faster with getting that much in. My body is slowing down my metabloism because I am not able to get that many calories in so I am losing weight very slowly. I am also tolerating only mushy foods and even then only a tiny amount. So I'm relying on my protein supplements... shakes etc to get my protein up to 80-100 grams per day. Concentrating on getting that protein up and also the fluids is a lot of work! Course then there's the time it takes to get our exercise in AND paying attention to the vitamins and which ones to take alone and which ones not to take with others etc. YIPES! It's like a full time job!

My surgery was August 14 and I've only lost 15 pounds. I am 5 weeks out today. I walk at least 2 miles a day and do water exercises too. So I think we are in the normal range. Don't worry... we need to be concentrating more on our fluids and protein. The weight loss WILL come!
