Hi Jennifer!
I have dumped on occasion. I had my surgery August 2nd, 2007. Things that tend to give me mild dumping are carbs. I haven't really eaten anything that's sugar...except fruit and it hasn't bothered me. My vitamins and supplements haven't bothered me at all either. That would stink for sure if they did! I had a bout with BAD dumping last week. I did a BIG no-no. I ate some nachos. Taco Bell nachos bell grande is what I had. The beans and meat aren't so bad, but the chips themselves did me in. I had dry heaves for a solid (and I do mean SOLID--with no breaks) hour. Then I slept for about 20-30 minutes I was soooo worn out. Then that evening I sat on the toilet for a good share of the evening. NOT FUN. I won't make that mistake again, that's for sure! I truly don't know what possessed me to eat nachos. That little inner voice that still wants what I know I can't have, I guess.
I also had problems for about 8 weeks with my esophagus restricted. I had to have it dilated (endoscopy) TWICE. Now the opening where it was restricted is about the size of a dime (not quite as big) so I'm able to get food to go down. For most of those 8 weeks I didn't get much food down and I lost a LOT of strength. I just had the second procedure done a week ago yesterday and I'm doing MUCH better. I've noticed a very substancial change in my strength in one week! I feel soooo much better and I'm once again losing weight after a long stall (about 3 weeks).
God is great!! There is hope!!
Have a great day and God bless you in your journey!!

Hi Jennifer,
I had my surgery on 8/22/07 and I haven't dumped at all. I feel pretty lucky. Although I think I'm going to be one of those people that can still eat ANYTHING and not get sick. So I'll just have to watch it. I've followed the meals plans pretty much to a T. I do eat fruit and it all goes down just fine. I'm so glad I don't dump because there is nothing worse in my mind than being dizzy or nauseous. YUCK! Good luck to you!

Topic: Do you dump?
Current research suggests that as few as 30% of RNY patients actually have dumping syndrome.
I do. I am super super sensitive to sugar, especially fruit.
So what about you? Do you dump? How does it feel? And if you don't know yet, do you hope you dump or hope you don't?
I've dumped from onion soup (watch that, apparently a lot of restaurants add sugar), grapes (no skin yet), peeled apple, and my personal favorite - 2 chewable vitamins along with a caltrate chewable. Not fair if its not even from food!!
Getting sick, foamies, etc. doesn't neccessarily mean dumping, it could be you ate too much, too fast, or something too dry. My dumping episodes include dizziness, lightheadedness, a mild stomach ache, panic, and the feeling that my heart is racing and beating so hard I am going to die. I'd rather have foamies (which I have, from a protein bar followed by milk - I think I ate too much).

Topic: RE: meat
A friend of mine blends canned chicken with chicken broth and then heats it - very high in protein and moist - she swears by it. I haven't had much problem with meat unless its dry. I can even do steak if its something quality, like restaurant filet mignon - but reheated meat tends to be too dry. I like to mix rotisserie chicken with creamy italian dressing (low fat) and add some parmesan cheese. With chicken I often stick to the dark meat. Fish i**** or miss, and shrimp doesn't work for me, which is fine because I don't like fish or shrimp that much. Pork is also hit or miss, and ground beef I don't care for all the chewing involved.
