Topic: RE: A great Workout- Fun too!
My roommate has been wanting to get a Wii for sometime now. She keeps telling me that it would be a fun way to get some exercise in. So, yesterday I was lurking around on the August board and I came across this thread. I thought she would get a kick out of it so I copied and pasted it and sent it to her. She called me when she got the email and said "see...it would be fun". By the time I got home she had already gone out and bought one. We bowled last night, played tennis, golf and we boxed. It was so fun...and it got my heart rate up a little. So...thanks for the post!!
Topic: RE: Eating Out
I have a mobile job where my office IS my company car all day long most days. When I get off work, it is usually to ferry one of my children to some school related activity. So I am on the road pretty much all the time unless I'm asleep.
Eating out has always been a part of my life and will always be a part of my life. It is part of WHY I got fat. I will not allow it to KEEP me fat.
I have eaten out since approximately 2 weeks post-op. I am VERY careful with what I choose to eat and the quantities I choose to consume.
I always get done before everyone else now, so I try to bring a newspaper or puzzle book with me. I also play games on my cellphone. Or I just talk to my family, friends or co-workers.
I never worry about all my left-overs. I ask for a doggie bag and my husband or my son (or sometimes even my daughter) have a whole meal in the fridge later on courtesy of my doggie bag.
Topic: RE: Anyone having dumping problems
I disagree.
One of the symptoms of dumping is nausea, which in my case leads me to vomit up my meals (3 times since my surgery, although 2 of those times were in 1 day - so that might have just been a bad day).
I have not experienced late dumping yet (the dumping that occurs 1 to 2 hours after meals that is usually due to a hypoglycemic episode). However, as I said earlier, 3 times now I have had IMMEDIATE dumping after I ate.
I finished eating, sat back to talk to my kids and in approximately 3 - 5 minutes, I literally felt like I was going to fall over in a dead faint. This was accompanied by EXTREME nausea. All 3 times, I went directly to the bathroom and vomited up my meals. Within 10 minutes after vomiting each time, I felt better.
I am glad this has only happened 3 times. (I did vomit a TINY bit of an egg when I was about a month out, but that wasn't dumping - that was just not sitting well with me.) Other than that, it has been smooth sailing.
To the original poster...
In my case, I've learned that it is important when you're dumping on something you shouldn't to look at your condiments. (Ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, etc.) Sometimes, different brands have different amounts of sugar in them. I love BBQ and have eaten it several times since my RNY. However, one of the times I early dumped (on that day when I dumped 2 times) was on BBQ beef. It was a different kind of BBQ sauce that had a little more sugar in it than what the others I had eaten had. FYI: If you have trouble with dumping, it is better to try to get SUGAR FREE products than FAT FREE products.
Also, look at how "greasy" something is. In my case, I've learned that I can tolerate some things that some places cook (eating out) and not tolerate the exact same dish at a different place (eating out). Some places just cook things "greasier" than other places. Some places also put butter or oil glazes on baked items to make them look juicier (not so dry) without telling you or including it on the menu.
I hope this helps.
Topic: RE: Stalling
I have had two stalls. One from weeks 2 through 5!!! and the other for the past week. I feel your pain.
I wanted to get to Onederland by Thanksgiving, but my body is not cooperating.
Topic: RE: WHAT IS EVERY-ONE EATTING????
I eat 800-1000 calories a day. My protein is usually 60-80 grams and I typically drink 60 oz. of water in addition to other fluids (protein drink).
I posted some ideas for what I am eating. I'm amazed at how little some of you eat. I have wondered if I eat too much, but my NUT thought what I am doing is fine.
Breakfast - usually an EAS Cafe Caramel AdvantEdge RTD protein shake, sometimes a hard boiled egg or Kashi Go Lean Crunch with milk
Mid morning snack - 1 oz of nuts or Dannon LIght & Fit carb control yogurt or 1/2 cup Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal or tbsp of peanut butter
Lunch - tuna with Light Mayo or roasted chicken breast or Small Wendy's chili
mid-afternoon snack - 1/2 protein bar
Dinner - veggies with 2-3 oz of a meat like: chicken, shrimp, 1/2 hamburger pattie, meatball, fish
About 3 times a week I have a Starbucks Grande Iced Latte in place of a snack. I just add Splenda (and I get it with 2% milk)
I can't eat Deli meat yet. Scrambled eggs typically give me the foamies. I don't have problems with bread - maybe once a week I have a slice of whole wheat with tuna or at dinner. I probably have mashed potatoes once a week too. I don't eat crackers. I'm not doing any soups or puddings. I don't add protein powder to anything.
My weight loss has been good (not stellar). I've lost a little over 40 pounds in 10 weeks. I started out at 250. I've had two stalls: one from weeks 2-5 and another the past week.
I take 2 multi-vitamins, a B-12, 2 Omega 3-6-9, a B Complex, 2 B-2's, 2 Magnesium, 2 Calcium, one iron and a biotin. The key items are Bariatric Advantage, the rest I buy at vitacost.com.
So far, no complications except a few bouts of constipation (adding Magnesium before bed has helped!) No hair loss yet.
Topic: RE: Anyone having dumping problems
If you mean that you vomit, that's not dumping.
Dumping syndrome is usually caused by sugar or fat. It is when your food dumps from your pouch into your small intestine quickly. Symptoms include sweating, accelerated heart rate and intestinal pain.
If this is what you mean, it is probably from the Fat Free Dressing. Fat Free Dressing = high sugar. In fact, if you look at the label, it has High Fructose Corn Syrup, which is the worst kind of sugar!!! You should get reduced fat, not fat free products.
Topic: RE: Stalling
I have had stalls too, one lasted for 2 weeks and then I lost 4 lbs in one day. My clothes are looser and I fit into smaller sizes. I also believe our bodies need to catch up and take a break.

Patricia,
I don't have diarrhea, but I vomit things. I vomitted sushi yesterday and steak two days before that. Sometimes I can eat something and its fine, the next time I try to eat the same exact thing, I vomit. Weird right?
