Topic: RE: Anyone having dumping problems
Hi Trish! We had surgery the same day. Dumping symptoms can vary, especially the severity of nausea. I get very mildly nauseas but I feel like my heart is going to explode and I get faint and extremely tired, sweaty and cold. If I dump like that (no vomiting) I don't really find that my stomach needs a rest, but if I vomit (once since my second surgery, many times before the second surgery) I go ahead and go back to liquids/purees for the rest of the day and maybe another day, just to ease irritation in the pouch. Sometimes something hot really helps too, I usually have chamomile tea, mint tea, or hot milk with SF hot chocolate powder. Chicken broth would be the same idea. Hope you figure out what's bugging you soon. If it continues, or gets worse make sure to see your doc because it might be a stricture. Best wishes!

Topic: RE: how much do you consume in a day?
It really depends on the food - the more liquidy it is the more I can eat. If its something dense like meat or cheese - at most I can fit about 2oz (1/4c). If its less dense, like milk, soup, fruit or hot cereal - 4-8oz. And then sometimes stuff just fits better than others. I usually just track calories and protein instead and its 600-900 per day. And yes the amount I eat daily now would have easily only been one meal before.

Jennifer I have NO idea if I dum*****t. I am deathly afraid of dumping so I have not even had a morsel or a crumb of sugar or anything carby. I saw a video on You Tube of a woman having a dumping episode and that is enough to make me not want to risk it. If you are up to it.. here's the link to the video that scared the begeesis out of me! http://youtube.com/watch?v=JjWhqo2u5-o -Marianne C.

Topic: RE: Stalling
It sure is comforting and encoraging to come here and read that you all have had stalls too! They sure are frustrating especially when you know your calorie intake is so low, your'e exercising like crazy, you're getting your fluids and protein and you wonder who could this be! Then all of a sudden your body gives up and there you do again and you're losing. Till the next time. I guess when I'm stalling again I'll come here and whine so I can make sure I'm not the only one. Misery does love company right?

Topic: RE: Eating Out
Ruth I eat out a LOT. We live in a retirement community and it's a regular social event to go out to eat. I do NOT want to be left out so I go. I usually order an appetizer if there is one suitable for me and even with that I always end up taking it home. Sometimes it reheats well sometimes not. I sometimes just eat bites of my husbands meal. OR sometimes I will order a full meal and take the rest home for meals later in the week. Last week I had liver with gravy and that reheated very well with the gravy and I ate it all week long. I've ordered steamed shrimp, I've had chicken wings.. well I can only eat 2. I've ordered black beans and rice and just ate the beans, I've ordered broccolli cheese soup, bean burrito and ate only the stuffing and thew away the burrito, I even ordered a sirloin steak and did very well with that. Of course I ate very little and chewed each bite to death. Hubby ate the rest the next day. I love socializing and going out to eat is something everyone loves to do. I seem to be fine with everyone else eating what I used to love and live for but now, since I have no hunger at all.. either head or real hunger.. I am just enjoying having fun with everyone. It's such a wonderful feeling not to be ruled by food!!!!!! I WISH so much that this lack of hunger would last forever! What a freeing feeling it is never to be hungry and to finally be eating to live instead of living to eat. -Marianne C.

If that's weird Heidi then I'm weird too! LOL If I don't chew everything to smithereens and wait a minute at least between bites then I end up vomiting as well. I don't consider vomiting dumping. I do get the foamies though which is usually my signal that I'm going to need to vomit. I always feel 100% better once I've vomited something that I have eaten too fast or not chewed well enough. I also have to eat VERY small amounts or I will lose it all then as well. I've gotten pretty good last couple weeks though. I have only vomited once in 2 weeks and I think it's because I'm finally getting it through my brain that I have to eat ridiculously slow and chew chew chew. Also..when I do that little hiccup/burp thing, it's my signal that my pouch doesn't want any more food... EVEN IF I've only taken a couple bites. -Marianne

I have quite a variety of things I eat now so it's hard to list but some of the regular foods I eat are: Dannon Carb Control Yogurt, Fish, Beef and Chicken Liver, dark meat chicken and turkey, ground beef, cheese, cottage cheese, Ricotta cheese, cantalope, honeydew melon, spinach, SF pudding made with Unjury protein powder, SF Jello made w/ Unjury protein powder, whole grain protein bread with fresh ground peanut butter, scrambled eggs with cheese, tuna and chicken salad made with reduced fat Hellmans mayo. I often make liver pate with left over chicken liver and have it on soy crisps. I drink an Acheive One frapuccino drink every morning. YUMMMM.. tastes like Starbucks Frappuccinos. I also manage to get 2 more protein drinks in some time throughout the day in between my meals. Most of my fluids are coming from my protein drinks but I also enjoy my water when I can, making sure I don't drink within 30 minutes of eating. My vitamins are 2 Bariatric Advantage chewable mulit's, 3 Bariatric Advantage chewable caliums, 1 sublingual b-12, 1 biotin, and one Bariatric Advange 18 mg iron. I am also a very slow loser. I have lost a total of 37 pounds since surgery on 8/14 and JUST today... finally arrived in ONEDERLAND! I have been losing about 2 -3 pounds a week but recently had a stall at exactly 200 pounds which lasted for 9 days. My exercise. I walk every morning 2 1/2 miles, plus most evenings another 2 1/2 miles. I addition I do weight bearing exercises in our pool using the water barbells for resistance.

I agree, Wendy. I've had nausea and vomitting with the dumping syndrome. The time I dumped in a major fashion, I had it coming. I ate nachos from Taco Bell. I was craving them BAD and decided to try a little bit. I would have done fine if I'd have just eaten the beans, meat, cheese, etc without the chips. Man oh man was I miserable! I had the dry heaves for an hour straight and then I spent the rest of the night sitting on the toilet. I had the sweats and I thought my heart was gonna beat out of my chest. I won't do that again! But nausea was definitely part of the dumping process. I was told before surgery that everybody is different and that what one person experiences with dumping another person might not and vice versa. It all depends on our own bodies how we dump. I can promise you this though, I will NOT be eating anything that I think MIGHT POSSIBLY make me dump like that again! I NEVER want to experience that again, NOT EVER. I hope this helps. God bless you! Brenda
