I've always had really high HDL (80+) - good fats are important in your diet (olive oil, avocado, flax seed, oily fish, grapeseed oil - all good) More important is fiber, lots of fiber, and exercise. Some people also take niacin.

I am having some trouble getting enough fiber in too - good sources include avocado, any kind of berry, apples, beans, lentils (also great for protein) and whole grains. I use a whole grain tortilla for a half quesadilla, or a tortilla pizza. I also eat kozy shack NSA tapioca which has 4g, and NSA carnation instant breakfast, which has 4g. Benefiber is a good supplement that dissolves in any kind of liquidy food. I am for over 20g fiber per day but don't always get it (the recommend amount is 25-35g for a normal person, and most people don't get it). One warning, up your fiber slowly or you will have a lot of painful gas - I'd recommend not going more than 4g higher every few days. If you like cereal, there are a lot of high fiber cereals (fiber buds, kashi go lean, raisin bran). Also remember the more fiber you eat the more water you need to drink because fiber can clog you up worse if you don't drink enough water.
There are also a few protein bars that are high in fiber - I just bought one from atkins advantage that has 11g. Good luck upping the fiber and I hope it helps with constipation! It helped me a little, but a stool softener each night helped more (colace).
