Not losing as much as everyone else :-(

Hello, my name is Mary and I had RNY gastic Bypass on August 15, 2007. My starting weight was 274. My weight today is 218. I am so depressed that I am not losing as much as everyone else. I get so sick of posting on our local message board and read how much peope have lost that had surgery after me. One lady had hers 2 weeks after me and has lost 66 lbs. What's up with that? Is anyone else experiencing this? I have been at a stall now for going on 3 weeks. It is making me wonder if I am even going to lose anymore. I don't know what I am doing wrong.. except for maybe not walking every day. Ya know all these weird ideas come into your head like "Have I stretched my pouch" or is something wrong inside of me. This has gotten me down really bad and I need all the help I can get if yall have some info to share with me. I appreciate it so much. Hope to hear from some of you soon! ~Mary~

Has "everyone else" had more to lose than you? I have "only" lost 52 lbs since surgery. I did, however lose 60 before surgery. but I had 100 lbs more to lose than you to start with. I go a week or two without losing anything. Don't get discouraged. As long as I know I am doing what I am supposed to do, my body has to do what it is supposed to do. I am more active in general, but don't actually walk or do exercise. Just hang in there, Mary. It WILL come off. I'm sure everything is fine inside and unless you have been eating unbelieveable amounts, I doubt your pouch has stretched much.

Some had more to lose and some didn't. It's just some of the ones that were my size have still lost more than me. That's what baffles me. I APPRECIATE you responding to my message. I will do what you said and try not to get discouraged. I haven't been eating alot so I know thats not the reason.... I guess I just need to be more patient and quit dwelling on it. It's hard not to though. Thanks again for giving me your positive feedback. Mary

Do not get down!! We have all taken a hard road to become healthier. I would tell you to stop looking at the pounds and start looking at how you are getting around. Feeling and looking. If you are working out you can gain as much as a pound a week in mussel. That might be slightly offsetting your looses. You will loose, also maybe look at your diet and make sure you are getting enough protein and water... that is key to loosing... every one needs to encourage each other... this Board has been a great help to me and I hope that it helps other in the same way...

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I tell ya I don't know what I would do without the support from everyone on the boards. I will say this.. I am getting in my protein each day, however 60 ounces of liquid a day is another story. Dr. Lord said the water consumption helps with the weight loss. My pouch can only hold so much fluid and then I can drink any more. Maybe I need to start the sipping all day long like I did right after surgery. I walk 1 mile every other night. I am gonna look for a gym over my Christmas vacation. Something like Curves or 123 Fit. Well.. thanks again for the advice.

I know that my weight management program director/nurse educator has told me many many times that if I notice I'm not losing like I should be I'm probably not getting enough protein and fluids. It's not one or the other, but both that are important. I needed to be reminded how important the fluids are along with the right amount of protein per day. I was also told that I'd lose between 10-20 lbs per month and not to get discouraged if I wasn't losing as fast as I thought I should be. I had surgery August 2nd and have lost 48 lbs since surgery. At 4 months out, that's 12 lbs per month that I've lost. I know it doesn't seem like much when put in that perspective, but also remember, we didn't gain this weight overnight and it's not gonna come off overnight. When I feel myself starting to get discouraged I remind myself that in the 4 months and 14 days since my surgery I've not gained one single pound back and I'm still losing, even if slowly. As long as I have a loss, I'm gonna be a happy camper! . I hope this helps you feel better. I'm feeling better, and doing more now than I've done in YEARS. You're doing GREAT and don't forget that! Hi Brenda, Thanks for the words of encouragement. I know for sure I am not getting in my 60 ounces of water each day that my surgeon wants. I may get 45 oz of liquid total. That is counting my 8 oz for each protein shake I drink. I drink 2 a day. I do real well with the protein part. However, when I start drinking alot of fluids it fills my pouch up really fast to where I can't take in any more. I know I need to be happy of far I have come and not be so down on myself. It's just so hard when I read our local forum and know these people had surgery after me and have lost more. Alot of them are my Gastric Bypass friends. I feel so much better since the surgery. I have no regrets whatsoever. I appreciate your kindness. I would like to add you to my friends list if that is okay with you. Big Hugs! Mary

I also wanted to say, drinking water in small but often doses is what is recommended since we do have such a small pouch now. Sipping all day long is what we should be doing. I'm still fighting to get enough fluids too, but I think it's getting better. I just have to concentrate on always having water with me wherever I go. You're doing great with your weight loss ...just hang in there....you're doing great!! Brenda

It is odd but you can not loose without enough water. If you have been not taking in enough you will gain a little before you start to loose when you start drinking more. You are probably dehydrated. I keep water tea or milk with me at all times... keep it up. smally changes seeem to make a diffrence.

Make sure you are getting enough calories also. Soon we will be hearing about the pounds that just melted away "overnight".
