It has been 17 days since my surgery. I have lost a total of 20 lbs. I have been the same for the last 3-4 days. I have been walking 10K steps, drinking water and 1-2 protein shakes per day. I am getting very frustrated! Anyone else out there stalled or has stalled and could give me words of encouragment?

I just wanted to tell you, I am in the same boat as you or maybe even worse off. I have only lost 18.5 lbs since surgery Aug 14 and its very frustrating. I eat less than 1000 calories, I exercise as well and I dont get it. But I hear its normal from many WLS Graduates so I am trying to keep my hopes up. I only lost 1/2 lb the last 6 days (may have been due to my period but still, its over now and I want the scale to move!) Maya

I'm so glad it's not just me. I'm ready to take my scale and throw it out the window. I had RNY on 8/27. I am down only 16 lbs and my scale hasn't budged in days. I'm following the rules to a tee. I get in all my water, my 2 shakes and I measure my food carefully. I walk almost everyday. What's going on???? Is this normal? I expected to lose at least 25-30 lbs. the first month...It doesn't look like that's going to happen. I am so disappointed.

I had RNY two weeks ago tomorrow (9-4). As of last Thursday, I had lost 22 pounds. I haven't lost anything since. i thought it was just me. I've been trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. I didn't walk for a few days, but the past 3 days I've walked at least 2 miles a day. I even went back on just liquids thinking maybe that would help. I was so discouraged yesterday when I got on the scale, that I didn't even get on today. I did walk though, so it better change tomorrow (ha ha) I know they told me that when I hit a plateau to up my protein, up my water and/or change something in my exercise routine. Unfortunately, I'm not getting in all 64oz of water and need to really work on that. I hope it at least helps to know you're not alone. I know just reading your post and the other replies helped me know it's not just me! good luck, sweetie! ~ Tara

It happens to the best of us. I was at a stall on day 8 and it lasted 5 day. My doctor said it is normal because your body is in shock right now and trying to hold onto anything it can. All I eat is protein, no carbs and my stall stopped after five day and I've lost 7lbs since. Total of 26 since surgery 8/28. Be patient, it will come off. I know its better said than done, but stop weighing everyday, it will drive you insane. Good Luck Luchianna

My surgery was August 14 and I've only lost 15 pounds. I am 5 weeks out today. I walk at least 2 miles a day and do water exercises too. So I think we are in the normal range. Don't worry... we need to be concentrating more on our fluids and protein. The weight loss WILL come!

I'm so glad that you posted. I'm just over 3 weeks out (had my RNY on 8/27) and I'm only down 16 lbs. I have cried everyday for the last three days after getting on my scale. I called my bariatric center in a panic yesterday and they assured me everything is fine. I DON'T BELLIEVE THEM! I am getting in all my fluids and protein and walking for an hour almost everyday. I feel like this surgery was a total waste. I am really getting very depressed. How do you keep such a positive attitude.

Don't worry Allison.... it WILL come off even if it's slower than some. I think we need to stay away from the scales. Aren't your clothes beginning to feel looser on you? Don't you FEEL like you're losing even if the scales don't say that you've lost that much. And really.... if we hadn't had the surgery we SURELY would not have lost as much as we have. I think we need to try to stop thinking about the scales and try hard on getting enough protein and fluid in every day. We really should be shooting for 80-100 grams of protein. If we do that it WILL help our weight loss pick up! I am a firm believer in protein!!

I am so grateful for this post. I truly feel your emotion and panic. I am losing so slow and this week I only lost 1.5 lbs. In normal life, I would have been grateful for any loss. But after this surgery, I just expected more and its so hard not to compare yourself to others who are way up there in the loss. I am almost (note: almost) disappointed I don't dump. And I also feel hungry alot. Its just a harder journey than I expected so early on. Hopefully this time next year, we will all be down atleast 100 lbs and can laugh at how we worried! Maya
