How much is everyone eating?
Hi Guys,
I am paranoid that I am eating too much as this early stage. I eat between 900-1100 calories a day and I had my surgery on Aug 14. I dont dump and can tolerate most foods slowly. I am still on the soft foods stage though its driving me nuts and hard to resist a few real bites of regular food. I am trying to be patient.

Hi Maya,
I had my surgery on 8/13th. I eat less calories than you, about 500, but notice that I am hungry a lot. That does totally terrify me. I was put on the real food stage today and I am so excited. I ate chicken breast (not ground up) with a few cooked mushrooms and 2 green beans. It settled well with no problem. What are you eating? Just looking for some ideas.

Hi Jen,
Right now I eat:
Eggs (scrambled, poached, egg salad and omelets)
Chicken Fajitas (minus the tortillas)
Chicken Curry
Wendy's Chili
Refried Beans and Cheese
Grilled or Broiled Salmon
Mashed potatoes
High fiber cereal softened in milk
High protein oatmeal with milk (Quaker weight control is low sugar and high protein)
Meatless or Turkey meatballs from Trader Joes with Tomato Sauce and a dash of mozzarella (these are awesome and so much protein!)
Low fat Cheese Sticks
Lentils
Hummus
Sugar free popsicles
I have taken a bite or two of things I should not but the above are my staples. I hear you though on hunger, this week, I feel like I am starving. Its also the monthly thing but still, it was tough to deal with mentally.

I am same surgery date..and eating like a horse compared to others. Yes I feel hunger now. I try drinking a glass of water and waiting 1/2 to make sure it is not head hunger or dehydration. I am concerned that I eat too much & that I feel hungry so soon. I was informed by my surgeon's office that some people never have a honeymoon period where tehy don't feel hungry.(looks like I am going to be one of those lucky souls). I am able to eat a small wendy's chili in one sitting. THIS GREATLY concerns me. However I have lost 22 lbs since surgery(8/14/07). The scale has moved in over two weeks...so I will focus on gtig mor fluids n 7 increase my dail walking. To me it is very scary & fustrating to sit through support meeting with people talking about never being able to get enough protein & never feeling hungry or get full very quick. I feel like some how I am fail the surgery by have hunger, and being able to eat a lot.
Don't feel bad. I can eat a small Wendy's Chili in one sitting and I also feel hungry.
In fact, I have been having horrible carb/sugar cravings and I dont dump (tested it unfortunately).
I am also very scared when I hear that people can't eat anything. As I can and have to control myself. I also have lost weight (about 18 lbs) but to be honest, its a lot slower than I expected after the first 2 weeks and I also had a stall.

Hi,
Wow, you have a much more liberal diet. Until last night, I was allowed to eat eggs, lowfat cheese, cottage cheese, canned meat like tuna and chicken, ground up chicken, yogurt, and protein drinks. I felt like I was going crazy. I have lost 22 lbs. also which I am happy with. After my preop diet, I had about 80 lbs. to lost so I expect to lose slower. The hunger thing is scary. I'm hoping that now that I'm able to start eating more foods, it will get better. One problem, I think, is that I'm able to eat such little portions, in 2 hours, I am hungry again. I don't want to develop a grazing habit so I try to drink more Crystal Lite. I'm going to try the Wendy's Chili for dinner tonight; it's kinda sad how excited I am about it.

The Wendy's Chili is awesome. It will make you thank the powers that be. And it has 17 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber. I just had it for the first time yesterday.
Also, beans are a natural source of protein so you can definitely have refried beans with some taco sauce and low fat mexican cheese and a small spoon of taco sauce. Even fast food refried beans and cheese like from Taco Bell are a good thing once in a while though they may have some trans fat.
Grazing is hard not to do. I just try and have like some cheese or something. Thats my worst fear too!

Hi Jen,
For the "other problem" you are having, I had the same thing and in addition to fiber, I did something my NUT told me to and its working great. Every afternoon/evening, I have 2 big mugs of hot decaf tea. I drink Decaf Green and its worked like a charm. I also try and eat some fruit right after dinner. I found papaya to be soft and easy and very good for digestion. Since I started doing that, my issue has disappeared.
