NAUSEATED - PLEASE HELP
I had a RNY on August 13, 07. I have had trouble with nausea for about a week and a half. Every morning I am terribly nauseated. This nausea lasts throughout the day until about mid-afternoon. I feel best in the evening.
I am on soft-foods now; however, I have resorted to just eating non- cream based soups, soft fresh fruits and water. This is about what I can keep down without vomiting.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have any suggestions?
I absolutely despise "pill time". I can't stand taking my pills anymore. I just want to barf. Anyone have any suggestions for that?
Thanks so much for all of your support!
Big hugs,
Jen
My doc only has me on liquids for the first 3 weeks. Might be your new pouch isn't quite ready for more yet. SO I think you are on track to stick to liquids for a few days.
On your pills, did you find the chewable ones? They help. I went from never taking pills to now doing these ones. I can see why it drives you nuts, me too. But then I remind myself it is the trade off for the smaller me.
I sympathize with you Jenny. I had RNY August 6th and have been nauseated ever since, and sometimes the smell of different food cooking makes it even worse. Also, I can't stand Propel or diet Lipton tea anymore, whereas before surgery, I loved them. I even barf pretty often but it is getting better.
I also HATE pill time so much that I rarely take them. I saw my surgeon today and she was not happy to say the least, so I am really going to try to do better. I think I will try to spread them throughout the day as they make me want to barf as well! I especially hate the 'petite' calcium tablets as they feel like they are stuck in my pouch & may start crushing them as well as the other crushable pills & adding them to the 'shake' I have been making in order to get my protein as I don't like my 'plain' protein drink anymore either. Here is my 'recipe'...... 1/2 banana, 2 scoops chocolate protein powder (48 g protein!), 3 teaspoons small curd cottage cheese (yes, it sounds nasty, but you can't taste it & it gives the shake a creamy texture!), 8 oz. FF skim milk, 4 oz. water, and some crushed ice. Mix it all in the blender & viola!, it tastes just like a chocolate shake!!!!!! I just sip it slowly and enjoy.
Good luck-I'm sure it will get better!

Thanks so much everyone for the info. I am STILL nauseated. Some of my pills are not offered in a chewable form and I am not able to crush some of them either. I am staying off work for another week and my doctor visit is up and coming. I am hoping that I am not developing a stricture. Lisa, I will have to try the chocolate shake idea; although, I only have strawberry protein powder and the very thought of it makes me want to barf. I hate the taste of those protein shakes. I guess I'm doomed for now. I will keep trying.
Thanks again everyone and Big Hugs!
Jen
Jenny-
Just use your strawberry powder.....strawberry banana is quite tasty!!!!! The thought of my rotein drink made 'regular' makes me wanna too! Maybe you can try putting the pills that you aren't able to crush into the blender 1st and let the blender crush them up (unless they are pills that crushing is not allowed) & then add the 'shake' ingredients. I hope it helps-
Lisa
I am so sorry you feel this way too, it is miserable, especially since everyone seems to do fine, you feel like the only one.
I am still spewing eats most days too, hardly ever get protein in and have extreme trouble even drinking water. Pills....don't get me started. My Dr told me reluctantly to break them in half and swallow them, which works for me sometimes. I feel like such a failure. I have tried so many shake ideas and I just cannot handle them. I can eat soft foods and sometimes do ok with them.
So sorry to be such a downer, but I just wanted you to know that you aren't alone out there.
I wish you good luck and better days ahead!!!!
Well, looks like we are definitely not the only ones! Maybe you are eating too fast or too much? I find that I have to eat very, very slow or else it is coming back up. It takes me the whole day to take my meds which consist of 10 pills.....Even though the going is rough, I am still glad I had the surgery-I haven't been at the weight I am now in over 20 years and I still have a LONG way to go! All we can do is plug along......
