Eating after surgery
While I sit home after this surgery, I've had time to read a lot of posts in various rooms. What I find facinating is how each doctor is so different with what they allow post op for food. I'm sure each way works, but it really makes you wonder why there is no common thought process.
I've read where some have real, not altered, food right away, and others (like me) go right into 3 weeks of full liquids and will not see "real" food for about 3 months. I'm not complaining, just find it interesting.
So, what plan did you get put on?
Mine: full liquids - 3 weeks, puree next 8 weeks, then soft foods at 12 weeks out
I was on clear liquids for the first 5 days. Then I was supposed to add in skim milk and I could have a medicine cup full of sf pudding, yogurt or cream of rice cereal. I go today for my post-op visit and I'll find out more of what's to come. I know I begin with my protein shakes and vitamins today. It is truly amazing how there is no set regimen in place after this surgery. I guess each dr has their reasons.
Tammy,
I totally agree w/you! I read what people are eating and think, wow, that is different from what I have been told. I am sure they have their reasons for their preferred diets.
Mine was 3 weeks total liquid(including yogurt,SF pudding and jello, hard boiled eggs w/ low fat mayo, protein drinks w/low sugar. and weight loss oatmeal=1/2pckg, and low carb yogurt),then Mushies for 2 weeks then intro. new food.
