Waiting on approval!!

I'm getting very nervous about my insurance approval when this journey first started I didn't have insurance and decided to go and get bcbs and my insurance picked up on the 20th so as soon as the card came in I faxed it to Barix clinic. They called and said I need my PCP to write a letter of supervised diets I haven't been to the doctor in years. So my PCP wrote a note letting them know if I don't have this surgery it will be more costly!! They called today to let me know they faxed the letter to barix and now I'm gonna play the waiting game. How long does the approval take? And what are my chances of getting an approval without having supervised diets? Any bit of info would be helpful!! Thank you!

Every insurance company is extremely different in what they require. I have Aetna and they have a strict criteria for covering bariatric surgery. I had to wait almost four months to go thru a strict pre-op regime of nutritional, mental and exercise counseling. I started my whole process on May 1, 2007. I went thru all my pre-op appointments They submitted to insurance around August 5th. I got my approval about a week later and had my surgery on Aug. 27th. I never thought it would go so smoothly for me. I had tried 3 years ago to get it done and I didn't have all the stuff insurance required. I gave up and I didn't follow thru. Be patient and be persisitent!

Hi Stephanie I also have bcbs and they took 5 days for an approval. Good luck , I hope you have a quick approval.
