BCBS-basic vs standard

Starting Sept 1st I will be cover by BCBS for fed employees, but I am having a hard time choosing between the basic plan and the standard plan. I was told the only REAL difference is that one has a deductible and allows you to go out of network (with less beneifts coverage of course). Either way I was told they both cover the surgery and have the same requirements. I basically want to choose the one that will give me more bang for my buck and would cost me less out of pocket when it comes to bariatric surgery. Does anyone have suggestions or know first hand of the financial difference? Any feedback would be appreciated.

We have had Basic for three years now and LOVE it! The only problem came when I made an appointment with a specialist for my daughter, new girl on the phones, and when I asked are you a prefereded provider she checked and said they were. WRONG!!! Probably the only time I have not double checked with Blue Cross or the Web, well 2 visits, an ultra sound and 700.00 later.... you got it, Actualy I did, a BILL! UGH!!! I believe the differences between the two are 250.00 deductable, 10% of the total, and 100.00 a day for hosp. for standard. 100.00 copay and 100. a day for hosp limit of 500.00 (5 days) for basic. Rx coverage is better with basic at your local pharmacy. Std has mail away 90 day Rx which is alot less.... Apples and Oranges! Laurie Just starting the journey...

I have had the standard plan for 2 years and have had no problems....I haven't had WLS surgery yet, but my son had his tonsils out and I've had 2 other surgeries and they sure seem to pay pretty well...
