Started my two week fast today.

Hello to everyone. I started my fast today. Nothing but liquids(fun fun) Just wondering if anyone else has done this and if they still have any nails left lol.. No I'm doing fine. Just looking for someone to share my thoughts with. My surgery is two weeks away I can't wait. I just want it to be here and done. My mom is taking 10 days off to stay with me. My husband works during the day. I am so blessed to have them and the rest of my friends and family. I know God will be with me the whole time. Hi Jess! I'm new to the site and this is my very first post. I'm so glad that you're able to have your surgery--I'll be praying for you. I want to know why you have to fast for 2 weeks? Is that normal for this surgery? I am needing my (RNY--hopefully laparoscopic) surgery so badly, but apparently, the only surgeons in Louisiana who accepted Medicaid left the state after Hurricane Katrina, and Medicaid says they would pay IF there was a surgeon! I cannot afford the surgery($25k, are you KIDDIN me!? If I had THAT kind of $, I wouldn't be on MEDICAID, now would I! ), so I'm so depressed I don't know what to do. Maybe there's a surgeon who will do it pro bono--don't they have doctors who do that sometimes? Anyhoo, if anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE let me know, ok? Thanks so much-- Kim

Hi Jessica, My surgery is on Wed - 8-22. I am on day 12 of my 15 day Pre-op liquid diet. This is by far the hardest part from what I am told. I have lost 12 1/2 lbs. I lost about 5 in the two weeks before that so I got a good start. It is very hard. Just liquids. Keep alot of sf jello, sf popsicles, and sf drinks on hand. Some days are better than others. But it will all be worth it in the end. Hang in there. Take it easy. Find something to do with your time and keep busy...busy...busy. I was actually surprised how much better I feel already. hi jessica & cindy i am having the lapband done and i am on my pre-op diet it is 800 - 1000 cal diet and 2 days before i fast with just liquids, so tell me is it the different surgery that the diets are different

Hi Teresa, Lapband surgery is different than RNY. Our issue is to have the Lap RNY instead of the OPEN RNY. Your liver has to be shrunk down in order for them to do Lap surgery. In order for you liver to shrink - you cannot have any SOLID foods - just liquids. That's why we are on a longer liquid program. Personally - I think that it is a TEST. To see if you can do this!!!! One hell of a test too - very hard to do this. So far - I haven't gone off the diet. Each day gets harder tho. Can't wait til surgery - just want it over with. Cindy

Thanks everyone for writting. The first day was awful I cried my stomach hurt so bad I didn't know what to eat (drink i mean) I woke up with a headache the second morning. But I'm doing much better today . Yesterday wasn't bad only being at a picnic with all kinds of food. I showed myself and everyone eles that I am for real and this is for real. That it's not an easy way out. We are some of the strongest people I have ever known. You ALL should be so proud of what we are doing.Taking our health back... God bless everyone. Jessica

Best of luck to you! My date is 8/31 fri ,but my surgeon allows us to eat whatever until the day before surgery ,then I have to drink a Gallon of a laxitive and enjoy the ride. I am having the lap RNY. Best of luck after drinking all that I may wished for fasting or liquid.

i was told 10 days for the liquid diet... my surgery date is two weeks from tomorrow so i figured mon or tues at the latest to begin. i hope that's right!
