I'm still pre op Irene so I can only speak from my research. But what I've read seems to indicate that keeping your protein up helps with hairloss. We need 9 grams of protein for every 20 pounds that we weigh. ALSO... there is a vitamin supplement called "biotin" that is supposed to help. I bought some and already started taking it. It is a tiny little pill that you put under your tongue and it dissolves. I bought it online from a company that specializes in bariatric surgery patients. The website is http://www.vitalady.com Since I started on my journey a year ago I started taking extra vitamins and have been buying from her since then. Have always been very happy and impressed with what they offer. -Marianne C.

Irene, I have surgery Monday the 13th, but my last appointment with my surgeon, he reiterated that not getting enough protein will most definately result in hair loss. You need to also make sure you are getting enough of your multivitamin, so make sure you take that. Good luck. Jim

I have also heard that same thing about not getting enough vitamins, and the biotin is what I read you should take extra of for hair and nails. I, like some others am waiting surgery so this is just me reading/researching. Good Luck! Donna

I've also read that it's a "normal" thing after any sort of major surgery to have some hair loss. Protein and biotin definitely help, but it's expected as your body is putting more of the resources to healing instead.

Some of your vits have a small amout of Biotin in them - like 10%. The Bioton itself is 1000 mg. which is like over 300%. This would help your hair and you finger nails. Call your doctor or nut and see if it is ok. I am looking at my nut book and it says it is - but each clinic is different. Good Luck!!! Cindy
