Hi All,
I'm kellie from tampa, florida.. i'm having the rny on 8/22 - so many questions and i don't know where to begin! i see some of your drs have put you on a liquid diet (or close to it) before the surgery, mine hasn't done that.. is there a reason? i go in for pre-op on 8/21 and then surgery the next day. i feel like it might be wham bam, but i don't really know what to expect. any feedback?
Hi Kellie...I am having surgery next week (8/14) and I've been in classes and on a partial fast for several months (to lost 10% and build up the protein). That, in part, is to reduce the fatty liver making it easier to do it laproscopically. I see that some people had to go on clear liquids for several days. I only have to do clear liquids for one day prior to surgery. Best of luck to you! This is a great place to read about other people's experiences and get questions answered.
Hi Kellie,
I am Tanya and I am having my DS surgery on 8/14. My doc put me on a liquid diet starting Thursday (5 days Pre-Op). I know it wont be easy but it's start to bring me closer to my big day. And yes, the liquid diet is to help shrink your liver to make the Lap surgery easier on the Doc (he has to move the liver). At any rate good luck and see you on the losing side.

Tanya
Hi Kellie,
My surgery is also on August 22. Our program requires us to go on a liquid diet for 15 days!!! It consists of 3 protein drinks with lactaid milk, 1 soup mix and a high fiber drink. We can also have sf popsicles, sf jello, and stuff like sf koolaid, diet v-8 splash, etc. They want your liver to shrink so they are able to do Lap surgery. I started my liquid diet this morning. Others who have had to do this say that it is the most difficult part of having the surgery in our clinic.
Each bariatric clinic has their own way they do things. I do believe that some of it has to do with dicipline. Our clinic also has two nutritionists available. We have to go to class and are given a notebook full of stuff. As we progress after our surgery our nut continues to give us information on our next steps. We can call them at any time.
Good luck on your surgery!! If you have any questions I can try to help you.
Cindy
