Topic: RE: I still want to eat!
You know, I have had a few challenges lately and this is how I have dealt with them. Last weekend it was our Canadian Thanksgiving, I had a small bit of corn, potato, ham and turkey. WHen the pie was being served I had a sliver, with about a teaspoon of whipped cream. I felt good about that, I wasn't denying myself but all I had was a taste. Honestly, to me I would have had some nachos and salsa and maybe even a bite of pizza. Of course, you have to be careful about trying new foods in public places in case you dump, but a mouthful or two might satisfy your craving and you wont feel you are depriving yourself. Right or wrong, it is what works for me. Cindy

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this. I was at a bowling party with my son. The party was set up next to the snack bar. Everything smelled so good and I was hungry. I wanted to eat nachos or have a slice of pizza. I know I can't eat that stuff. I called my friend we talked about it and I sat down and ate my cheese n cracks that I brought with me. How could I have a weak moment like that?? Why do I have the urge to eat stuff like that when my stomach is so small? Brenda

Are you having any pain? I found out that I have esophogeal spasms and they are really painful and make swallowing difficult. The treatment is a BP med. I am 6 weeks out and am just starting to do some more solid stuff but I have to do it really slow and tiny bites that I chew to the consistency of applesauce. I still toss things up especially if it isn't moist. I have learned that slow and easy really wins this race, everytime I rush I pay dearly.

I am 6 weeks out and have struggled with this as well. I was already being treated for depression for the last 6 years but the meds I was on I couldn't continue because they were time release and it killed my stomach. I am on Liquid paxil and it is working ok. I had a real problem with anxiety at first also. Your body is going thru so many changes hormones are messing with your emotions as well. Taking meds for it is not a bad thing. Good Luck Jenny

I'd contact my doctor and ask about that. After 9 1/2 weeks I would sure think you could handle tiny bits of chicken. Have you tried something other than chicken? Maybe that's the issue.

I eat 1/2 cup per meal ... about 800 calories per day. I've lost 50 lbs and my surgery was on 8/7 ... Keeping your calories that low is just going to slow down your metabolism, and this will make it difficult to keep the weight off. My surgeon and NUT want me to slowly increase my calories to 1000-1200 per day to prevent this. Annette

If you are exercising regularly, eating right, and getting your vitamins, you may need to take anti-depressants if your depression is bad enough. It's temporary, so don't panic. I've been in treatment for depression for 14 years, so I know how painful it is! Talk to your doctor about treatment options ... If it is mild (and stays mild), just wait it out. hang in there ... You can e-mail me if you need someone to talk to! Hugs, Annette
