Topic: 6 and 1/2 months postop
I hope that everyone is doing great. I am 6 1/2 months post-op, currently at goal. I have lost 90 lbs and wear a size 10-12 down from a size 22. My labs are perfect. Continue to take vitamins, minerals etc. I am able to tolerate most things with the exception of milk and beef. Since surgery if I have milk or cottage cheese then I have the most smelling, noise gas. Quite disgusting. I am glad I had surgery, now for the hard part maintaining the weight loss.

Topic: RE: How much can you eat?
I don't eat much, but I am afraid to try a lot of things. I have hard time with things like chicken, shrimp, and sometimes ground beef. Breakfast for me, nearly every day, is a Venti Decaf Nonfat Sugarfree Vanilla Latte from Starbucks. It's got 15 grams of protein, and it tastes really good Lunch is usually a bowl of soup or a protein bar. I'm making my way through every protein bar known to human kind to find ones I like. Dinner is a bit of whatever the family is having if it is something I can tolerate, or another bowl of soup, tuna, or even cheese and crackers. Snacks are usually pretzels in cream cheese, protein bars, nuts, havarti cheese, peanut butter on crackers, or Dannon Light and Fit yogurt. I also keep a good supply of sugar free popsicles and pudding in. I like the premade Jello pudding better than the kind I make myself, and my favorite flavors are the two new ones - the chocolate mint and the dulce de leche - YUMMY. I haven't pushed myself to try too many things that I am afraid I will have no troublt with. Rice has been my biggest no-no - and I love sushi, so that's been sad I have switched to Yosenabe, a Japanese soup with seafood and chicken and tofu in it. I started the journey weighing 295 pounds. Had lap RNY on August 1st, and as of this morning, I am down 130 pounds to 165

Love that calculator!! I just wanted to weigh the same as what I weighed on my wedding day. I had dieted to get to that weight, and I felt comfortable there. I was 165 pounds. I got on the scale today and weighed 165 pounds!! Not quite in time for my wedding anniversary - which was March 9th - but close enough!

I printed out a chart from http://www.thinnerself.com/files/Expect_Chart-Inches-BP-52.htm#Inch%20Charts: It has boxes for a BUNCH of stuff! neck chest bust midriff waist hips thigh calf ankle bicep forearm wrist I think that is it.... Oh, and don't forget to double your thigh, calf, ankle, bicep, forearm, and wrist measurements when you are adding up your total! You don't lose inches off of just one arm or one leg usually! LOL Lea

Honey...I know how you feel....get this...technically I have been on a roller coaster since Thanksgiving.....I got to 171 back then and since have battled the scales day to day...going up to 176 and now this week back to 171... I dont know I mean I KNOW what I need to do I just simply loose time each day and dont drink extra protein...Im snacking now....its good snacks but still carbs... sometimes I can eat what seems like normal and some times it feels like its stuck in my chest or that I overate.... I thought I would be PERFECT after going thru this...but I do find that Im reaching for food again when Im tired and stressed... Ive started eating the Special K High Protein cereal...just a bit..when I want something crunchy or carby...it helps cause it fills me sooo quick. My energy is low these days...guess I need to hunt down somewhere to get a B12 shot...I have yet to have one of those. But you guys are kickin my butt on pounds lost...I have only lost 57 since surgery on 8/28...I started as what they call a lightweight so I knew I wouldnt loose like others but man...I want more! My surgeon said I should have lost more by now..they werent happy.... guess I need to LIVE at the gym in place of just doing my 3-4 days a week... I have dropped from a tight 22 to an 11...and tight XL to a loose Medium so Im happy....but wew...this skin............YUK!

That's so cool. Congratulations! I wish I'd been more diligent about tracking my lost inches. All my doctor's office records is waist and hips, which I'm sure is to track the waist-to-hips/apples vs pears thing. I wish I would have measured things like my arms. What measurements are you tracking?

When in doubt, ask your doctor's office.

Topic: RE: What's your typical daily menu?
To start with, please contact your doctor about this... It may be something they can help with. Maybe try something OTC like GasX? I know my surgeon told us to bring GasX to the hospital with us for gas postop... As for an average day's menu, mine is usually something like this: breakfast: egg beaters with cheese and some chopped green pepper or some bacon and some cantalope snack (only on days when protein from breakfast is less than 20 grams): low fat/low sugar yogurt lunch: usually something leftover from dinner the last few days...yesterday was leftover beef roast, sometimes I pull that leftover meat apart and put it in some broth and add some leftover veggies for a homeade soup afternoon snack (only when I'm at less than 40 grams of protein by this point): same yogurt or some cheese--most days I don't eat a snack at all, but I never eat TWO snacks...they are just stuck in here where they may or may not apply dinner: We've been pretty creative this last 3 mos as far as dinner is concerned... We've tried probably 50 new recipes in 3 mos time. Last night, I browned ground chicken and added a jarred spaghetti sauce. My daughter had this over soy pasta. For me, I put a cooking spoon full of the meat/sauce mix in the bottom of a microwave safe bowl. On top of this, I layered on some ricotta cheese and then some shredded italian blend cheese and shook on some parmesan cheese. Then, I microwaved this till the cheese was all gooey and hot. It was yummy! Occasionally I'll eat a bite or two of the pasta when we do something resembling spaghetti, but I don't enjoy pasta anymore, so not really an issue. We love beef in this household and it is an excellent protein source, so we do lots with beef. We do beef and peppers in the crockpot, a lot of stew type dishes with good veggies in them... We do meatloaf using good, lean ground chuck and the last one I made I stirred in some shredded cheddar cheese. Terryaki beef, chili, beef roast, steak, etc. We also eat a LOT of boneless/skinless chicken breast--baked, broiled, stir fried, etc. My local grocer sells a 3 pound bag of the IQF boneless skinless breasts for $5 quite often and I buy 4 or 5 bags and throw them in the deep freezer. Great bargain! I cook some extra each time and can have it chopped over some salad greens or made into soup for lunch another day. MOST days, I try for 20 grams of protein from breakfast, 20-30 from lunch, and 20-30 from dinner. I try to NEVER get less than 65 in a day and actually aim for 80 per day according to my Nut. As for fluids, I only count the clear liquids I drink... I don't count milk or anything I put into soup or a very occasional protein drink.

Topic: RE: Anyone stalling even gaining?
After almost 2 mos of somewhat steady stalling, I feel like the queen of stalls! I have never gained (thankfully) but sometimes wonder what difference it would make! LOL One thing you need to look at is your protein... Are you getting in 65 to 80 grams per day? We really need that much at this point and from here on out. Next is, yep--you guessed it--your fluid intake.... Are you getting in more than 64 ozs of liquids EVERY day?? And, finally, your calorie intake. Are you eating ENOUGH??? At this point postop, if you are exercising at all, you probably need somewhere around 1000 calories per day in order to be eating enough to keep your body out of starvation mode where it will hold onto everything you give it! Yes, as morbidly obese people, we never thought we'd be asked this question, but there it is and I'm not joking!! You need to be eating ENOUGH, getting in enough liquids and enough protein each and ever day to keep that weight rolling off like we want it to! If you are NOT exercising, you need to be--even if it is just a good walk at a steady pace (go for 2.5 mph at least). Walking for 30 mins at 2.5 mph at 279 pounds (where I am now) burns off over 200 calories.... If you have been exercising, are you doing pretty much the same thing each time?? If so, your body may have become accustomed to this and you need to shake it up!! Change your routine or your level of exertion or such in order to shock your system a bit. It may work! Lea
