Topic: RE: Aug. 7th Surgery
Hey April!
No words of experienced wisdom...my surgery is not until 8/24....but man have I learned a lot here!
The biggest thing I learned for now is...
1. What to take to the hospital (flavored chapstick, your own pillow, etc.)
2. How to make it on the pre-op and post-op clear fluids
3. Anxious/nervous/giddy/ecstatic/terrified are all normal
4. Everyone is pulling for you!!
Lots more to learn...but thought I would share the little bit I have...
Prayers for your surgery on next monday!

Topic: A MUST READ PROFILE FOR ALL WLS'ERS
Hey you guys....I just happened to come across this profile a couple of days ago....and it has made all the difference in my confidence for making this surgery work for me.
I didn't truly understand the concept of the pouch being a "tool". I thought I did...but I was wrong...this profile tells you EXACTLY what you should be doing to make the pouch work for you and not against you.
If you read anything on this site....this should be it!

The member's name is Deb S....she is a real jewel!
Let me know what you think!

Topic: I LOVE THIS SITE!!!!
I just found this site about 4 weeks ago thru my surgeons office. Then 2 weeks ago I found the forum for Texans...and now specifically for August Re-Birthdays!!
FANTASTIC!
So nice to not only have access to have mentors from the other forum...but also peers...comforting is the word I think.
My name is Christy..I am 40...married to the love of my life (nabbed him at the Senior Prom in high school and haven't let go of him yet!)...three beautiful daughters...and a wonderfully supportive family.
I am having Lap RNY at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano on AUGUST 24th!!!
I am wavering between ecstatically giggling like a school girl to blubbering like a big ole baby....not sure whats going on with the crying jags...but I guess whatever emotion(s) I am releasing....it's probably healthy.
I have started taking my vitamins...making sure I eat at least 40 grams of protein...even without surgery I found I am not a big protein eater...and making sure I exercise and get in my water...figured its never too late to start good habits.
The only thing I haven't done is pick a protein drink...it just sounds gross to me...so gonna wait till I am feeling more adventuresome to start taste testing.....all I need is another reason to cry...*sheesh*
Ok..so thats me in ...a nutshell....ok....more like the tree trunk of the nut....but one day I will fit into a nutshell
See you guys round!

Hey you guys!
My surgery date is Thursday, Augugst 4, 2006 @ 8:00 a.m.......can you tell I am obsessing...woulda done seconds if I thought I could be accurate
This I have learned from the other boards...take:
1. Flavored chapstick (they say its like a treat)
2. Your own pajama bottoms to wear with the hosp. gown
3. Slippers..not socks
4. A small portable fan
5. Tongs...(for those private moments)
6. Personal hygiene items (toothbrush..toothpaste..deodorant, etc.)
7. Facial cloths
8. My own pillow (for sleep and the ride home)
That's my list for now...gonna go read the other posts to get some more great tips!

Topic: diet and CPAP help????
With surgery looming at the end of the month, I need to drop a few more pounds, before my pre-op appt which is the 17th. I have been sick with a cold so I have not felt up to exercising. Any tips on how to decrease my appetite, increase my energy? Also how to you use a CPAP when your nose is plugged up? I am struggling at night.
