My Surgery Story Well I got to Victoria on the 2nd and started my bowel prep at 2:30. YUK YUK YUK!! It finally stopped by 8:30pm and started up again at 3:30am!! We stayed at the Traveller Inn, nice place. I was the first person at the hospital on the 3rd 15min early. Right at 6am they took me to the pre-op area and had me changed and drugged J. At about 7:30 they took me in to waiting area for surgery. It was quite busy in there. When my time came they took me to OR 13!!!! Good start J Dr. Amson came in and said hi and next thing I knew I was in recovery. I had lost my voice for a bit. I was taken up to my room in 3 Royal and just wanted to go for a walk. The nurse thought I was nuts. She did let me stand up, no dizziness!! Dr. Amson came by my room and said all went great, I asked him how Sheila did and he said she did fine too, I then tried to sleep for the rest of the day. I had 2 roommates who had lots of visitors that drove me nuts. I did get up and walked the halls a bit on my own. Aug 4th at about 10:30 went for the lovely leak test. YUK YUK YUK. Thankfully it went fast. At about 3ish the nurse said I passed and brought me in some water, she also took out my catheter and drain tube. My nurse Debbie warned me that the stuff we have to drink for the leak test would give you diahreaa and it sure did. It still has not stopped. We missed the lunch trays. Had some broth for supper. Aug 5th I was allowed to go home. Sheila and I spoke with Dr. Amson on the phone as he was heading out for the rest of the weekend and was not coming back coming to the hospital. Dr. Amson said I could go home either Sat or Sunday so I took Sat. I packed my little bag and left. Sheila was just waiting for her nurse to tell her she could leave. I had great nurses every one of them were awesome!! It doesn't feel like I had much done. It just feels like I have been kicked in the gut. I have 5 little poke holes that are healing just great. At the hospital I was walking a ton. Here at home not so much, hard to go down the street when you have run to the bathroom all the time still.

Thanks for the advice!!!!! I am going to try tea now cause of you- that sounds so good and warm. I am irish too so I get that one lol. I got the vitamins down ok, but think my calcium is wrong. I went to GNC and got this whey protein and it has several flavors so I got two small bags ( 1 lb ) of vanilla and chocolate carmel. I tried the CC one and it was so sweet and not gritty but I only did 2 oz. I asked about flavorless and he said they had nothing. I need to go to the vitamin shop and try that. Cause with the choices I get with full and clear liquids i will NEVER get enough protein in. Dont worry about gaining the weight once you add food. You are only eating 2-4 oz of food- the calorie count is so damn small that there is no way to gain if you are picking protein and low/ no carbs or fat. At some points before we would put down 5000 calories. There is no way in heaven we could get that from 2 oz lol Maybe if that is a concern to you, go to fitday.com and place what you ate and drank and it will keep you on track and aware of what you are really doing. it will surprise you how little calories and how little protein we get and need to add. How is your weekend going? Hope you are feeling good. Will keep you updated

Topic: RE: Question for the new post ops's/veteren post ops?????
Here are my answers: 1. drinking/eating: chicken broth, jello, low fat, no sugar yogurt, S/F popciles, cream of wheat and tried a protein shake made with whey protein . All of these is only 2oz 2. not yet except for the whey protein shake I made- it was too sweet 3. I am taking 2 childrens chewables vitamins, b12 sublinqual, Calcium, colace 4. I end up taking at least one nap a day, I get so worn out doing and moving. 5. totally bloated and full feeling throughout my entire tummy. 6. I am running around the house and have a 2 story with 14 stairs, going to walk my block tonight when it cools down and I am setting up my treadmil today. 7. I am drinking water all of the time it seems but when I keep track i am only getting in 20oz. How do you get it all in???? 8. I went in 252 and left the hospital 261 and today I am at 254. i was given 4 bags of IV fluid during and after cause I became dehydrated. Not fair to come out heavier... 9. Very little pain if any, i have taken liquid loratab and only taken it 2 times since I came home 2 days ago. I am always sick to my stomach so they gave me a patch to wear- it last for 3 days at a time.

Hey I am curious what foods are you drinking/eating? Are you adding protein already yet? Having any trouble with all of the vitamins? Get tired more easily and take naps? For the Lap RNY's--- does your tummy still feel bloated and full almost like pregnancy? How much are you walking each day or what other forms of exercise are you doing? How much water are you getting in? Any weight lose already? Did you gain after surgery? How is your pain level and any nausea or vomitting yet? Tanya 252/254/140 ( was 261) when I came home from the hospital

Yes luckily I already has an appointment on the 4th for all the tests, and PAT's. Everything went great. I am starting to get a little nervous, maybe I should say down right scared. My family is feeling my stress. LOL. I know that everything will be fine though.

Topic: nausea and pain meds
I have a question what kind of pain meds do they give you while in the hospital and when you go home? Second is I remember when I have had a few knee surgeries both times I had nausea so bad with the pain meds they had to give me something else to control it I mean it was automatic up chuck. and I do not and i mean do not want to even give my stomach that chance to do that and mess up something inside. The way I see it if I try to throw up / dry heave it might undo something we just done. And my doc did not put me on liquids before but I have a feeling maybe I should do liquids to clean out system so it will be easier any thoughts?
