I had my pre-op this morning. I've been given the all clear. I got a tetnus shot and they took some blood for a cholesterol baseline.
Remember, the surgery is just a tool. It's up to you to make the changes and use the tool to lose the weight. You'll do fabulous. Good luck Monday!
Topic: RE: Question for the new post ops's/veteren post ops?????
My surgery was 8-3 I have had a lot of broth, popsicles, crystal light, juice diluted with water, I also had some creamy soups with no problems. I have started adding protein, today I could only take half of my HMR 70 protein shake because its so filling. I am not having problems at all with the vitamins. I had an open RNY and I know that I feel bloated like crazy and my drains are leaking all over my shirt! I have been walking around the house and walking from the front to back yard but I was sent home on oxygen so I have to lug that thing around with me everywhere. I do not know wether I have lost any weight yet because I have not weighed myself I am sure I have though and I will post when I find out, but I have a lot lot to lose so I am sure I have dropped some. Pain level is getting better every day, I did have a lot of nausea but it was from the lortab elixir I was taking and I am 5 days post op and taking no pain meds at all.
Good luck!

Topic: One Week Post Op Check-up - Protein Question!
I had my one week visit with Dr. Nusbaum last night
All is going well, and I have lost
Drum Roll LOL
24 pounds!!!!
So today, I go to full liquids, which I did not know includes oatmeal, pudding, and yogurt (what kind of yogurt?? he just said no fruit chunks).
Here's my question -
The protein is already killing me. I get to the bathroom as soon as I get through the drink. I do much better with warm or room temp drinks, and the cold protein shake did a number on me.
Is there no protein pill? Is there a better way to do this? Will I have diarrhea for the rest of my life?
Thanks, guys.
Anna

Hi Jan, I know what your talking about, but as soon as you get a negative thought, Don't receive it and replace it with a possitive one, because it's so important that we work on a possitive attitude during this journey. You Know the devil
is a liar anyway so tell him to be on his way already.
WE will do fine as long as we work hard and know that this is just a tool. I'm looking in the mirror as i'm saying this cause I need to hear it too. Know that you have alot of prayers behind you, many Blessing be with you, I'm looking forward to being on the losing side too. Kelly

Welcome! I'm getting banded 8/21/06. I have to travel 4 hours to Great Falls since they only do gastric bypass here in Billings. I have to start my liquid diet next Monday the 14th, and I'm nervous, too!
I'm having my EKG and final labs today. I can't wait to be a "loser"!

Topic: RE: I'm starting to get nervous
My surgery is scheduled for August 24, and I go for pre-op on Thursday. I see that we are all having the same feelings of nervousness. Nice to know I have fellow pre-ops feeling the same way I am. Makes me feel more sane now....hahah
I keep thinking about all the what if's. I think I should have waited until after my surgery to read the WLS Memorial Page. That really brought tears to my eyes, and made me start thinking about "what if I don't make it through this surgery", but then I was looking at a lot of the before and after pictures so now I feel more confident again. My husband keeps telling me that I will be fine. Of course I know in my heart that everything will be fine, but my head keeps telling me other things...
One day at a time....that's the best way to take it. I guess I'll start the liquid diet either Friday or Monday. I'm not sure if I'll have to be on the liquid diet 2 weeks or 10 days. Either way it will be tough because I like to eat.
I hope you all have a great day!
Chris

Hey I am curious what foods are you drinking/eating? Driking Water, Crystal Light and Sugar free Koolaid. I also freeze the koolaid and then my daughter makes me a snow cone with it!
Are you adding protein already yet? yes - made sugar free jello with my protien. Also doing the stalone puddings.
Having any trouble with all of the vitamins? no - mine a chewable and I take one 5 times a day
Get tired more easily and take naps? yes - this is what threw me for a loop. I was not expecting how exhausted I get with the littest tasks.
For the Lap RNY's--- does your tummy still feel bloated and full almost like pregnancy? No- mine is more like i did a million sit ups, or someone hit me really hard over and over. it is a dull ache more than anything. it does talk alot though!
How much are you walking each day or what other forms of exercise are you doing? just walking and leg/arm stretches. I get in about 1/2 mile - a bit at a time.
How much water are you getting in? about 40 oz a day
Any weight lose already? Did you gain after surgery? Don't know. have not gotten on the scale. My Doc only wants us to weigh at his office - so I will know where I am at my one week check on Friday.
How is your pain level and any nausea or vomitting yet? Pain is fine. Have not taken any pain meds since Sun Morning. Just kinda achy all over. No nausea or vomitting yet. Just EXTREME tiredness!
