Topic: RE: I'm starting to get nervous
Jen,
I'm six days post opp and this was my first major surgery so I completely understand what you are feeling.
What I can tell you is that the time from where you are to where I am has really gone so quickly I can hardly remember it. My three days and nights in the hospital went really fast and I met some amazing health care professionals each step of the way whose job is to make you as comfortable and informed as possible. Use them. Rely on them, they will be your angels!
I have to also say, for me, that prayer helped more than I could say and you'll be in my prayers.
Any questions as you are going, I'm just a couple weeks ahead of you in the game and am looking for buddies going through what I am.
Take a deep breath (believe me you'll be doing plenty of breathing exercises after too) it will be here before you know it!

Topic: RE: Are you Bypass or Band???
Well, I was originally going to have Lap-Band, but when I new I could eat (graze) all day & that it would pass through that hole a little at a time & still go into this HUGE stomach. i said I want Bypass. Everyone is different & there reasons are different.
I had Bypass on 8-1-06 & am down 13 lbs. Was released today to go back to work on Monday.
I had a great Dr. @ Northwestern in Chicago.

Topic: Are you Bypass or Band???
I'm scheduled on 8/21/06 to have the Lap Band. For me it is the best choice. Portion control is my #1 issue and sweets aren't that big of a deal. I just am too afraid of the risks with the bypass. Would you all let me know what you are having/have had this month? Thanks!
Topic: Post Op Appt. with Dr.
I'm 9 days post op & 13 LBS. LIGHTER.
Dr. says everything look great & he released me to go to work on Monday.
I'm a little nervous as I'm still a little weak, but then again the check book is a little weak too.
Thank you to all of you who prayed for me, as I know prayers are answered.
PRAISE THE LORD!!!

Topic: Home Safe and Sound
Hello all! I'm grateful to report that I am home safe and sound and according to plan - (drain out). I still can't believe it went so well. I did have an allergic reaction to the dilaudid (IV pain meds)- I knew I was allergic to morphine already. Got flushed and a big rash. And suffered through a gap in time between stop of the IV pain meds and the kicking in of the oral pain meds. However, the nurses were very good and responsive when I called them. Kind and cheerful.
Advice - here - when you get your first tray of clear liquids - don't eat it all at once!!!!
My roommate who had the same surgery I did at the same time (different surgeon) drank all her broth at once and then was miserable and bloated the rest of the day!
The nurses suggested sippping the liquids and making the breakfast tray last till lunch, the lunch tray till dinner and the dinner tray till bedtime. That seemed to work out well. When I went for a walk, I left a note on the tray saying "Don't take!" so that the dietary workers would leave the tray for me to finish. I wasn't able to eat all of any tray but I am doing better as time goes on. Well, time to rest a little - my deep thanks for all your support and encouragement. Best to all waiting for their turn "at bat!"
Love and hugs to all - Chris Davitt

Hi Tanya,
Thanks for the praise!! I just thought it would a nice idea so that we can all go to one place and support all of our August buddies.
Being involved here helps me so much, I just hope to show everyone how I appreciate it and share some support.
Next week's update maybe late, depending on when I get home from the hospital.
Congrats on your surgery and your loss to date!!

Heather,
Thanks for gathering this information for all of us to the newbies. You have allowed me a chance to thank and give support to those who were there for me when I had my surgery last week. You are an angel...

Topic: RE: One Week Post Op Check-up - Protein Question!
Congrats on the 24 pounds!
I go in for my check tomorrow.
I am having a hard time with the drinks to - BUT what I can do is the unflavored powder. I mix it in my jello, pudding, oatmeal, soap, yogurt - whatever!
I am finding myself getting about 40 grams without really trying becuase I do not have to try to stomach those drinks.
So far the potty has not been to bad of an issue for me - expecially since I can do some full liquids and will start soft proteins tommorrow after the doc.
Good luck and you are doing great!
