Topic: RE: the hunger passes
My hospital has a strict diet regimen that I follow. I will be three weeks out on Monday, I am on a full liquid diet till then. Then I go to pureed foods for two weeks. Then soft foods for a week. No real food for three more weeks.
I am able to tolerate sugar free pudding, and love it dearly. I am going to buy some sugar free ice cream pops next.
I am sick of liquids and cannot wait till I can eat some good food. I am hungry all the time.
Hugs,
Trish

HI Sharee!
There you are! I must confess that I am a lemon addict....or former addict.
, I am trying to not use it because I know I will just become as obsessed as I was 6 months ago. Plus...I don't know about the added acid in my pouch. Just nervous...hehe.
How are you doing?

Traci

Hi Cindy,
I too like Fitday! It has been really helpful for me to be honest about my protein intake.
I am trying to increase my food intake too...I am on pureed/soft diet and it is going well so far. I love Sun Chips and actually have a bag in the kitchen...but trying to increase the protein intake I ordered some Soy chips...haven't tried them yet but I will let you know how they are.
I think you are doing great...you are eating normally. That is my goal before returning to work.

Traci

Hey Traci,
I am pretty much eating regular food. Here is what I had today.
B- oatmeal and milk 1/2 c
S- 1/2 c V8 juice
L-scotch broth soup and 1 slice chicken breast
S- 1/2 hot choc
D- chicken breast, carrots, brocolli, pasta (about 1/2 c altogether)
S- pear
about 5 sun chips (a multigrain chips, my girls were munching on while we watched movie United 93 (v. good btw), I ate them very slowly and they seemed to go down ok.
I am the same as you, water does not appeal to me...except it bugs me NOT being able to drink it during meals....THEN I want it...lol
I havent been having the protein shakes, my dietician really believes in getting them from the food. I am supposed to have about 70 g a day, but so far havent gotten up to 50 yet. Usually I am around 40 to 50. I am going to call my dietician on Monday to see if I should supp with a shake.
One more thing, I found the site, fitday.com very useful. You enter what you ate and it calculates the nutrients...very helpful to see the protein. Also does the calories. Even though it seemed like I ate quite a bit yesterday it was only 579 calories.

Traci,
I'm supposed to still be on pureed foods. I have now incorperated 2 TS of reduced fat peanut butter to help w/the protein. 1-2 Hank's Finest Protein Shakes a day, along with all my vits, b-12, biotin, etc...
Today I had a protein shake, 1 hr later an 2 oz of mushed bannana's for breakfast; 6oz of watery egg drop soup for lunch and for dinner the other 6 oz's of egg drop soup. My trouble is late night, I am most hungry so I had 2 TS of PB and it solved my cravings.
My liquid is hard; consuming about 30-48 oz a day with my Crystal Lite & water.
My top 3 challenges are scheduling my meals; drinking; & protein.
I know pratice makes perfect and it's all trial & error. Best of luck to you!

Topic: RE: Anyone else have a wound infection?
I have had a skin infection that got into my bloodstream. Please do not wait to see your doctor if you suspect one. Afterall, that is why they say to call if you have ANY problems.
My infection started right under my left breast where I had an irritated area from my bra rubbing there. I had a breast reduction back in 2001 and the doctor thinks it did not heal properly. In 2005, I was hospitalized twice for it and had to be put on IV antibiotics, and Potassium supplements. My white blood cell count was very high. I spent 3-4 days in the hospital each time on constant IV antibiotics.
This is nothing to put off, if you are concerned, please see your doctor. Especially if it is looks like a rash and is red like a sunburn and is very hot to the touch. I didn't even know what was happening to me until I took a bath. I was feeling very sick and dizzy and had the chills. I thought I was taking a virus or something. I kept piling on the blankets and took tylenol. Nothing helped. I thought a bath would make me feel better. I just happened to see myself in the mirror and there was this huge patch of red that was extending down the left side of my side. It was from the area where the bra had been down to my belly button and around to my back. I immediately went to the hospital. It was not fun!!! I was very sick!! So, if you have symptoms of the flu and there is a patch of redness, I'd see my doctor -- definitely.
Hope everything is ok for all of you who are having infection problems.

Topic: RE: Motivtion to exercise
Diana,
Walking can be boring sometimes and it is hard to get motivated to do it. But, do you like music? If so, just pick some that makes you want to get up and move, or tap your feet. That always helps me. If I don't go on a walk, I clean the house. That is exercise too!! Put some variety in your walking. Turn up that music and get moving... ha ha (If it is too much for you to walk because of the arthritis and the pressure on your joints when walking, just sit in a chair and lift your legs up and down like you are walking. I'm serious!! It will do the same for you until you can walk for a longer period.) I know you are probably not wanting to make the effort to even get up and walk if it is only going to be for 10 minutes, and on top of that it is going to hurt, right? Well, just do it sitting down! You can even do some arm exercises while sitting. But, if it does not bother you to walk, I think it is worth the effort to walk the 10 minutes. So, don't give me any more excuses young lady. ha ha Get up off of that thang!!!! LOL
Let me know if you need some support. I'm here for you. I have fibromyalgia and some days I don't even want to get up at all. But, when I do, I feel much better than I do when I don't get up. It's the moving around that will help. Trust me!! Eventually, it will become routine and you will feel better after doing it. Not to mention -- you will gain more self esteem too. So, get a move on! ha ha And, I'm going to need you to do this to me after I have my surgery! So, you better be in shape and up to it. lol I'm counting on you.
I'll be rooting for you! Let me know how you are doing.

Topic: RE: Tired all the time
You probably won't get your energy on a level basis until about 4-5 weeks. It will gradually get better. So, hang in there, and listen to your body. If it's tired, give it some rest. You can always do some more tomorrow. You don't want to over do it. But, make sure you do some moving around every day.
Hugs
