Almost 8 month post op update...
I had a Dr's appt. with the bariatric team yesterday. They did a resting metabolism test. I guess it tells you how many calories you burn in a day while doing regular activity and my results were 2650. I now weigh 224 by their scales and have lost 111 since surgery 8/8/05 and 129 total. This is according to them - my readings are better, because I weigh first thing in the morning without clothes on. My resting metabolism was 3140 the last time it was checked when I weighed 341. They said my current reading is a good strong reading. If anyone knows more about this test..please fill me in.
Dr. Still told me that he was very pleased with my weight loss and that if I would not lose another pound that he considers my surgery a success (I of course want to get to my own personal goal of 140 lbs). My Dr. does not set a goal - he just says the average person loses 70 - 80 % of their excess weight. They were very pleased with the amount of exercise that I do, but he wants me to increase my calories to 1200 per day. The one nurse said I should be between 1200-1500 per day. Does that seem high compared to what your Dr's are telling you?
The best thing about my Dr's appt. was that we parked fairly far away and have always taken the bus to the hospital and this time, my friend Brenda and I walked...and it is a fairly steep hill and it felt wonderful. I kept thinking...a year ago or even 6 months ago - I would have never even tried it.
Thank God and Dr. Still and his team for giving me the chance to get healthier and be more active.

I may not be there yet....but I am closer today then I was yesterday!
Congrats on the weight loss and walking up that hill! I'd love to knw where I could get one of those metabolism tests. My doctor doesn't set goals or how many calories I'm to eat so I'm sorry I can't be used as a comparison. I don't even count calories - just try to stick to the 75% protein to 25% everything else.
