Nachos..Pizza...No!

I can eat anything...nachos, pizza, etc. As long as it doesn't have sugar in it, I tolerate it but I don't lose weight if I eat it. Potatoes, potato chips, tortilla chips, etc. I can eat them but I can't lose ANY weight if I do. It's like my body knows..."hey, wait a day or so..it'll come down the pike to us 'cuz you know she's gonna eat some and then we don't have to burn our fat cells up!" I'm learning that I CANNOT eat even a handful (way less than I used to) of snack food stuff and lose weight. It seems that I'm gonna have to be very strict for a month or two starting today to get my body back in to the fat burning mode. Months ago I didn't want snack foods (chips, burritos, carbs). Now I've been sneaking them in and NOW there's no weight loss. It's not brain surgery, eating carby snacks will halt weight loss. But feeling so successful with the weight loss I've had already has made me feel like superwoman but now I see that I'm just as delicate at keeping that balance as any person. Now, I have to make CHOICES that keep me successful....it's not just my lack of appetite that is my tool.

Hi, Gina. I had my surgery on the same day as you. I've been experiencing this type of thing, too. I don't eat that stuff very often, but I do have some chips every now and again. For some reason, tortilla chips and salsa have been on my list of cravings. On top of this, I don't dump AT ALL!!! But I'm very carefull with sugar. Don't keep it in my house and use splenda instead. I don't deny myself, but I also only eat a bite or two of something sweet. But there have been one or two incidences where I know I ate enough sugar to make a person dump and I didn't have any problems. I have lost 123 pounds, which is great. I haven't been hungry since before my surgery. Not ever feeling hungry is just so strange. I have noticed that I seem to be able to eat more than I used to. I measure everything I eat so I'm sure to get enough protein, but there have been times when I was able to eat that and some more. Not like a huge amount more, but just more than I was able to eat. I remember when I was doing good to get in my 4 oz of protein and then a bite or two of vegetables or something. I still do that and am totally satisfied, but have noticed that I can eat more veggies or side stuff with my protein, than before. And to top it all off, yesterday, I went to my brother's for dinner. He grilled burgers and we had salad. Well, I am not a bread eater, but those burgers were looking so good. So, I made a burger with a bun, lettuce, tomatoe, and pickle. My husband laughed at me because he knew I would only be able to eat about 1/2 of it, if I ate the bun. Normally, I can eat a whole burger with no bun. To my surprise, I ate the whole thing.....very slowly. I even had about 4 bites of salad. I WAS SHOCKED! It did take me a while. Everyone else ate big salads, two burgers and were cleaning up the table when I was eating my last couple of bites. So, naturally I think I've done something terribly wrong. My husband was sure I would be sick. But I felt fine the rest of the night. This was kinda scary. Well, I'll stop for now as this has gotten rather long! Know you're not alone! And keep making those healthy choices! Tina

Hi Gina, I think we're all experiencing cravings and back to reality eating issues. As in any problem, knowing what you have to do is the first step to solving it. For me, it's having a 'bag' of whatever it is. If it's here, I will snac****il it's gone. So for me, single serving is the way to go. That way I can have my treat, as a treat, not a snack. I also TRY to have the treat as part of my meal, not a snack. I can't eat as much that way. Dawn 258/141/135

You are definitely not alone in snacking on No No's. We have been talking about this subject the past couple of weeks on the board. I had been losing very slowly even though I walk 3-4 miles almost everyday. Well, I made a commitment last week to cut out the junk food snacks and guess what? I lost about 7 pounds in less than a week. I have not lost like that since before Christmas. I know that snacking on sugar and junk food has been a huge issue for me. I am just going to have to be mindful and guard myself against that the best that I can. LOL, Sherry 276/189/130-140

Hi Gina, I went on the plateau busters diet last Monday to help kick start my weight loss again and to help break the snack cycle for me. Due to eating 5x a day instead of 3 it has helped tremendously. Also, I had stopped doing protein shakes at my doctors insistance. I find, however since adding them back for this diet, that they really help with sugar/salt craving for me. I was trying to drink 2 a day to get the 45 g of supplemental protein for the diet, but I just can't because by the time I go to make the second one, I am just not interested in drinking it. I drink a couple sips and end up throwing the rest down the drain (too expensive for that). So if you want help in kicking the snack habit for now, maybe give the plateau buster a try for the next 10 days. It has really helped me stay on track. You can find it a few pages ahead on our board if you need it. Best of luck and keep on the journey, girl! Your going to make it!! Lori 293/211/135/130
