Low sugar
Hiya'll! ...
i had something happen to me a few times this past week. All of a sudden out of nowhere (being at rest and not particularly after heavy meal) I felt weak and clammy, covered in cold sweat as if I just taken shower. I happened to be near Glucometer last night, so I measured my Glucose right when I had this episode. And my sugar was 44 (lowest normal 60). It was not a pleasant experience at all although it only lasted just a few minutes.
have you had that happen to you?
hope all are well

Hi Rita,
I am diabetic and wow that is way too low for a reading. Normal is 80-120 and the weakness, clammy feeling and lightheadedness are signs of low-blood sugar. It is also a sign of many other things too. Please check the times this is happening, you may see a pattern of daily points when your surgar is dropping (hypoglucimia-sp) and need to eat on a more regualr schedule to avoid these dips. Your doctor should be able to let you know if you are becoming hypoglecimic or not. This can be as dangerous as diabetes because you can go into shock if your sugar gets too low.
I have been having these feelings a little more lately too, thanks for the reminder. Since I've lost all the weight, I am no longer consider diabetic, but I still have to watch for dips in the sugar when I don't eat on schedule. I haven't had weakness, but I do get lightheaded and clammy at times...I'm glad you posted this to remind me that I need to be diligant in my care.
Take care of you!

Lori,
thanks for you thoughts.
I'm not a Diabetic, never have been... and I do believe these couple of last episodes are "Side Effects" of WLS...I was just little startled by them since I haven't had anything like that before. I do have a Graduate Degreee in Medicine and understand potential importance of hypoglycemia, but I wanted to see what other people here go through .
I really like people on this board and find coming here and talking to you all both informative and motivational.
take care , Rita
Wow, Rita, that is very low. How's your protein intake been? Have you had changes in it on the days you felt this way. That may do it. I haven't had any episodes, but grew up with diabetes & hypoglycemia in my family.
Keep us posted. You may want to call your Dr., they may have some suggestions for you.
Take Care

Tammy, Tammy, Tammy...
you just nailed it...I didn't make this connection myself... but I did just run out of my protein shakes and haven't had the time to get them for over a week or so, and was slacking on my protein intake ...THAT ALONE can be WHY this happened to me....
Tammy, you are so smart.
Thank you....
Rita
Glad to be of assistance.... Hopefully, the lack of protein is the culprit... Boy, one thing with this surgery is we learn how very important a role protein plays in our bodies. Must be your body is very sensitive & if it doesn't have enough protein to stabilize your blood sugar it will drop on a dime...
Best replenish your supply of protein. I just ordered some yesterday...I've been slacking in the protein area & really need to get it back up there. Think once I do, my weight will start to drop again.

Rita,
I am so glad to see others are going thru this as well as me. I have not changed anything, I am doing my protein shakes and am maybe doing a little more physical things in the yard but maybe physical exercise without extra calories are causing the blood sugar levels to do this to me.
I told my husband listen for me while I was in the tub this morning because I was about to black out. He came in and said, your blood sugar has to be low, so I finished and went in to get my protein shake with milk and frozen strawberries.
I waited to long to get my breakfast protein drink in my body I think.
