Hi, I had my surgury on 08-16-05 started at 262 down to 180 i know it should be more but have not excised regularly. My question is what can people eat, it seems sometimes I can really eat. Other times no, I do stil get nausau and think maybe because it is I am eating too fast or too much is this happening to anyone else.

Hi Claudia, I had my surgery 8-22-06, and i can eat pretty much anything. I do dump on too much fat, but not sugar. I eat things like beef, chicken, veges, cheese, nuts....etc. The only thing is if i eat chicken it has to be very moist. I almost cannot eat chicken. Steak, or Roast... things like that, i can tolerate very well, dry or moist. Not sure why. But i my nutritionist said she has found that most people can eat either chicken or beef after WLS, but not both.... it takes time to tolerate both. I too eat fast. But i dont get nausea most of the time, if at all. I just get a painful pissed off pouch. So i am working on taking my time to eat. I am going to try putting the fork, spoon, sandwich...what ever it is i am eating down in between bites, so hopefully this will slow me down. So far i have not been able to accomplish this, i keep forgetting. lol I have not exercised at all yet. I walked at work up the street to put the mail in the receptacale, took a whopping 6 minutes, but hey it's something. I so suck at exercise....well cuz i hate it. lol D White highest/current 311/213

I'm really scared because I can eat anything and I can eat about 2000 calories a day. I work out really hard almost daily to keep things in check, but I really need to get off the sugar. That's what I was hoping this surgery would do for me! How many calories can you eat?

Hey Donna! I really hate to hear you are already back up to eating 2000 calories a day. I just keep hearing in my head my surgeon telling me over and over again, this is not a cure or a miracle it is a tool for you to use and you need to use it properly. When you find yourself hungry try to snack with lowfat healthy things, like fruit, veggies, protein bar, etc. Try to stay away from fat and sugar if at all possible because we are now through our "honeymoon period" and it will become harder to lose weight. This is your second chance at life and I know you don't want to go backwards...just think positive and ask God to help you...He is listening! I wish you the best! Nancy

Hi Claudia, It's really hard to answer this question as we're all following different doctor's orders. I have discovered that our post-op routines are SO different that we're sometimes comparing apples to oranges. When I follow my doctor's plan I eat a lot less than when I follow my 'want it' mode. I can eat any meat, small doses of sugar or fat. I'm basically allowed to eat whatever I want since I'm so close to goal as long as I stick to 3 meals a day and eat and 3-1 protein to everything else. I too tend to eat too fast which usually means I think I'm fuller sooner than I really am so I get hungry too early. Generally you should be able to eat less animal protein than anything else since it's so dense. If you think you're eating a whole lot at a setting think about what you're eating. Is it carbs/fruit or is it your protein? Good luck. Dawn 258/141/135

I haven't even ventured to eat anything sweet. I'm terrified of getting sick. Maybe that fear will just continue and I won't have that battle to fight. I eat chicken, cheese, ground beef, pork (lean chops), soups, etc. I haven't tried eating steak. I'm not wild about it so I'm not willing to take the chance with it. For breakfast I always have a bowl of Quaker Oats Weight Control Oatmeal (it has added protein) mixed with Lacaid milk. mid morning--protein decaf latte (yummm) Lunch I usually have 1/2 sandwhich and some veggies. Snack- an apple mid afternoon Dinner- varies Dessert later in the evening- sugar free popsicle or sugar free pudding made with skim lactaid milk with added protein Bedtime- protein shake or protein decaf latte. I know it sounds boring but it is working for me. Mary
