Hey all, I had my surgery 8/31 and believe it or not I am also a Dietitian...I take 2 flintstone complete chewables, 1000 mg calcium citrate, and extra 18 mg of iron for a total daily of 54 mg..also 1000 mcg of sublingula b12.Just a few words of advice for you all...Centrum Silver has NO IRON and is NOT an appropriate choice for a post gastric bypass patient unless you are taking your iron separately...There have been documented cases of severe iron deficiency requiring IV iron infusion which is NOT pleasant, so please be careful. Calcium carbonate (like in Viactiv) is poorly absorbed without gastric acid (which we lack!!) Look for liquid if you can't swallow the pills (I have done OK with the pills, I look for 250 mg size and take 2 pills twice a day). THere are some chewable calcium citrates as well, but they are huge and chalky...I initially used a pill splitter to make them even smaller. I love Susan Maria's stuff, but I felt the Vista vitamins were too low in Calcium AND iron (only 8 mg total a day!!). There was no way I was going to take 8 vitamin capsules and still need extra calcium and iron. I certainly have (had) food issues which led to me getting to the point of needing surgery despite my nutrition knowledge...but I have done A lot of research on this topic...I personally don't take additional Vit C or zinc as I prefer to keep things fairly balanced...Vit C can help iron absorption though, so take those together (and don't drink tea with your iron.... Best luck to all of you!!

Wow, I feel like I'm cheating. You all have such complicated pills and such. I'm taking 4 chewable OptiSource and 1 chewable Caltrate calcium a day. I have to go look for the chewable calcium chocolate.... sound yummy. Dawn

I'm late answering this post, as I haven't checked this board in a while. Anyway, I take two chewable pre-natal vitamins. I also take 4 generic chocolate flavored "viactiv" - so that gives me 2000 mg of calcium - I think. I don't remember the exact amount of each chew. But my calcium was a little low last time, so they told me to up my calcium. Other than that, I don't take anything else. My surgery was 8/11/05 and my blood work has been fine each time. The calcium wasn't too low, but a little on the low normal side.
